I was in the local Tandy last weekend and they are closing all their stores and going mail order only. I don't know if they will/do have an internet site. Check your yellow pages for "Western" or "Country/Farm" supply stores as most sell leather and can sew up a good sheath.

Check the place that advertises in Blade Mag, i forget there name, but not Tandy. They have good and heavy stuff. You can ask for seconds, and get a better price, depending on how much you need, you do have to buy a 1/2 side. may be a barbed wire hole or scratch in it but still lots of workable area, and more affordable.

continental leather in tulsa okla...they have an 800 #...call i 800 operator.... and on the net....www.hidehouse.com thats where im getting mine now...top grade....not the cheapest...but i only buy double shoulders in 9-10 oz and they have nice stuff....i always get oak tan vegetable oil finish...or something like that.....they are near napa calif....

Try Weaver Leather at 1-800-932-8371, excellent selection of leather and tools/dyes. Just about anything you need.

I buy latigo leather at Tandy (they still have a store in Edmonton, Alberta) -- same stuff used for saddles and harness. It will run some if wet, unless sealed with Snowseal or some similar treatment, but it's tough, handsome... and pretty expensive. Other than that, maybe contact a tanning company, saddlemaker or leather artisan. I've seen some gorgeous leather work from Mexico -- does anyone out there down Texas-way have any connections?

I go to a local farm suply store that sells horse saddles, reigns, bridles and all of that stuff. They usualy will have bags of "scrap'' leather that they sell in a bundle for saddle repairs and all of witch is latigo. You will spend about $5-$7 a bag that usualy has a slab or two plenty big enough for two or three sheaths. The last one I bought I got three sheaths for deap bellyed skinning knives and one for a 5 in bladed hunter.
The latigo was well oiled for weather resistance, stiff, and very strong. I have had very excelent results with this stuff.

I'd second that about Weaver Leather, went to the leather crafters show in Lebanon PA last year and got a real nice piece of 8/9 oz leather. Just got another that was 6/7 oz for my custom folder sheaths. The one below was made to fit a Large Chris Reeve folder, from the Weaver Leather I just got. It shaped and worked very well.
