Sheath Leather

I think that this information has been provided before, but I can't find it. Does anyone know where I can find good quality 8-10 oz leather for making knife sheaths? I found an old 1988 Knives Illustrated magazine that I had packed away that has instructions on sheath making and I thought that I would give it a try. It says to use shoulder hide. Any info would be appreciated.
