Sheath made out of G10?

Hello-

Is it possible to do this. I just bought a Busse AK-47 sword and I wanted to make a traditional looking sheath for it, in kind of an oval shape instead of being flat or having squared off edges. I thought maybe if I could get a piece 21" long and a 2" depth and width I could cut it in half and router out a channel for the blade and then put them back together and shape it up.

Would this be possible?

Is G10 expensive?

Where could I buy it?

I don't know where you will find a peice of G10 that big. I recommend not trying to rout it either.
G10 has a consistent weave pattern and color. You could laminate your sheath out of thinner material(using epoxy), to avoid the routing (which would turn out very poorly IMHO!) and the seams would be almost invisible. The trouble there is finding it in the right lengths. I can't think of any knifemaking supply companies that carry it in that size, but I'm sure it is available somewhere. Its used for a lot of things besides knife handles, so is micarta.

I'd suggest you do a search of this forum for info about working with G10 though before you go very far with this idea. Its nasty, dangerous stuff to work with. The dust is full of glass fibers and will tear your lungs up if you don't wear a respirator.
The glass content, makes it very abrasive on your tools also. Will wear out saw blades quickly. And it burns easily with high speed tools, so it would be bad for the router idea on 2 counts.
