Can anyone give me some recomendations on the best books and videos to get to learn leatherwork. I do make my own sheaths but would like to upgrade both the look and the quality.
Thanks
Steve

I completely agree regarding the DVD, I have that but what else. I like books so that I can sit it beside and see what I am supposed to be doing.

At Tandy leather on Tomken rd. Mississauga they used to have Saturday leather working classes. Not sure they still do since the manager changed, but give them a call. The people who teach it do very good work. Plus you need a reason to come to the city :)

Steve,
I checked you website… very, very nice work!

The Chuck Burrows double video set is a must buy!

Books:
The Art of Hand Sewing Leather by Al Stohlman
Leathercraft Tools: How to Use Them, How to Sharpen Them by Al Stohlman
The Leatherworking Handbook by Valerie Michael
The Art of Making Leather Cases, Vol.’s One, Two & Three by Al Stohlman
Leatherwork Manual by Al Stolman, A.D. Patten & J.A. Wilson

This is by no means ‘the list’ of books to be had in the leather working craft.
These can be found on Amazon for reasonable prices. And also at your local Tandy store.

Websites: www.leatherworker.net/

There is only so much that can be learned from books and videos. Sometimes the ‘aha!’ moment occurs while watching an experienced leather worker at work. Check the various knife websites… there generally is a leather or sheath forum also. Try to find someone locally that you can visit.

Good luck…

I have and deeply value Chuck's Sheath Making DVD.

Never-the-less, I desperately would like to be able to refer to more books and DVDs on sheath making. I understand and appreciate there are many publications on leather crafting, but....

Are there other books and DVDs on sheath making????

There is one listed on Ebay but are for 18th Century style sheaths only.

One of Al Stohlman's books on building cases (IIRC it's volume 2) shows some info on building standard sheaths.

My plan is next spring to do another video on making frontier style sheaths.

Other than that I know of no others and I have looked............

one other "advantage" to buying my video is you can ask questions by email although IMO it's best to ask here or on one of the other forums since that way more people get to see it. Also I can be slow at times to answer due to my heavy work load - I'm about 18 months back ordered and it's just me.............

Thanks Chuck, that's some good news.

Is this the one you're talking about on eBAy, Holsters: Lessons in Construction of Holsters and Knife Sheaths (DVD), by Dusty Johnson? Or might you have some other clues?
