Ok so I would like to make a pocket sheath for a few items. Kind of a funky design and I wish I could post pics. If they would help you answer my questions I can email you simple sketches. I've looked like crazy for a while and cant seem to find quite what I'm looking for, so I decided to make my own
. I have never done this before so thats why I'm coming to you guys. I've watched a few videos on youtube and think I pretty much got the gist of it down. But nobody explains what products to use or where to get them. Here are a few things I have questions on:
1) What type of leather should I use. I would like it to be Saddleback leather quality and style, very simple, extremely durable and high quality. I think I'm probably going to wet form the sheath if that makes a difference.
2) I've done some research and read that some leathers can be corrosive to certain materials. Not sure how true that is but I'd like to stay away from those types of leather.
3) What type of sewing material would I use? What sewing needles?
4) What type of thickness or weight leather should I use?
5) What type of finish? I'd like for the sheath to weather and get that old fashioned beat down look.
6) I'd like to do this with buying the least amount of tools since this is probably going to be the only thing I make.
7) Where should I look to get all of this? Tandyleather.com or is there somewhere better?
I think thats pretty much it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
