I'm about to get sheaths made for 24 knives. I've been saving up my pennies for awhile and now it's time. I was wondering what type of material should be used? I'm outdoorsy and hunt constantly, so my sheaths will have to be able to take a beating and be water proof.

What do ya'll think?

So as you "hunt constantly" , what kind of sheath have you used thus far? Haven't you been able to determine what it is you like/want in a knife sheath??

To be really water proof, you'd have to use kydex. Leather will fit everything else you mention and can be made water resistant. If you take good care of quality leather, it can get soaked many times and not loose it's effectiveness as a sheath. Nothing wrong with kydex, I'm just a fan of quality leather for sheaths.

If it were me, I'd go with kydex. Cheaper and you don't need to take care of it. I'm not sure about leather, but I believe it requires maintenance with protective coatings or other things to keep it in a good condition. Kydex, you can just forget about it. The only reason to clean it would probably be so that your knife won't get dirty when you put it in.

Even thou I have a variety of knives, I've been taking folders and putting them in my pocket.
