I recently bought this Tops Yacare from someone on the forum that came with a homemade kydex sheath. Whether it's me or someone else, I'm afraid somebody is going to grab this sheath in a comfortable position, draw the knife out, and slice all the way through their hand. I'd like to maybe glue a thick piece of leather onto where the paper is. I have no experience with this. Does anyone have a better idea, or suggestions about what materials from where I should use? I'm looking for a cheap fix TBH.
Thanks

I'd replace the whole thing, that is an accident waiting to happen, not sure I'd trust a mod to correct that.

I'd inquire with the seller if the original sheath was still available

I have the original. It's not good at all but better than the kydex of course. If I use the right glue, a fat piece of rawhide would in theory eliminate the problem right?

Depends on whats wrong with the factory sheath. Some mods turn out and some turn out so klugy you're better off starting over and fixing it right once and for all. Anything can be made serviceable.

That looks like a design mistake. Shouldn't the spine be on the open side of the sheath, like this?

As I look at it I can just imagine getting up from the camp chair after a few beverages to prep some firewood and slicing some digits to the bone. I agree with HeavyHanded, Start over. I watched a U tube vid on sheath making and made one over a weekend and it came out great. I picked up a leather stamp and punch kit at a craft store to give it a little embellishment and I have to say it so easy to make that I supersized myself. You can get every thing you need from FleaBay for short money. Reconstructive surgery is so expensive these days ;).
