Sheath Mounting Option

A friend had a TOPS Wolf Pup XL, in need of a new sheath. I am new to the sheath making hobby, but decided to give it a shot. The problem was he wanted a few sheathes in matching design for a few different carry options. I don't have the expertise to mass produce identical sheaths, so I figured out a new carry style for his Pup.

The main carcass of the sheath is as any other sheath. The back of the sheath has 3 triangular spaced Chicago screw halves glued into it. I then made a horizontal belt loop with same spaced holes in a circular pattern. the Sheath can be mounted vertical, horizontal, or slanted forward/aft on the loop. I also made a Molle compatible panel with the same circular hole pattern to mount on a pack or vest in various angles. It is still a work in progress, but thought if anyone with better leather skills than me wanted to look at it and give a little feed back to work the final plans, it would be so helpful.

Considering that your friend has a hard time making up his mind, I think your idea is great, and should work as designed. Spinning Chicago screws will be your main PITA when ever a change over is tried.

I'm thinking for a knife that small that the vertical or angle carry will wind up being his choice.

Thank you Sir! I believe a majority of the time, he will wear it angled cross draw. I have been worried about the spinning screws as well. I have since drilled 2 small holes in the back of the screw and ran a double loop of Tiger Thread through it. I did my best at deburring the tiny holes. Hope the metal edge doesn't cut the thread.

Next time, check out 8/32 T-nuts. They have the little triangle teeth that bite into the leather or other surface when you tighten them down and they then anchor pretty good. 8/32 is the same thread as most Chicago screws..

Looks like a rock solid sheath to me. Great job and thanks for sharing.
