Sheath needed

I just acquire a Kukri that has an aftermarket leather sheath but would like to have the "correct" sheath. How hard would it be to get one?

Is this a HI khukuri? Was it bought from HI? Is it a VUK model (still has forging scales on)?

Are you asking if HI sells sheaths for other khukuris?

I think he may be asking if they sold or make sheaths separately. I don't think his is an HI kuk. They obviously custom fit their sheaths to the kuk when the blades are finished. I suppose the OP is asking if he provided a template and thickness, if HI could make a sheath??

my suggestion would be that it's not an HI khuk, I'd contact one of the members of the craftsmen section of the forum and see if they can help you out.

In that case, how is it constructed/ I saw a video of one being made and it appears to be made with a wood core and then wrapped in thin leather. Is this correct?

I would suggest contacting Pugs for a leather sheath, or Singlegrind for kydex. There are others as well on the forum.

You will need to send your khukuri to the craftsman so that they can make a custom sheath to fit.

That is correct. They are basically two pieces of wood sandwiched the blade and wrapped in leather.

While I appreciate the traditional scabbard, I prefer the flatness of a total leather construction. Pugs would be a fantastic maker to work with.

I make my own but the fit and finish is rudimentary compared to his.

Is pugs still making them? I contacted him about possibly making me a piggyback sheath on here months ago, with no response.

Yes he is. Private message him.

I did private message him, as mentioned in the post you quoted. It might have just gone unnoticed. A forum member sent me his email, so I will try that. I was really impressed with his work and thought that a khukuri/puukko piggyback sheath would be convenient for taking in the woods.
