Sheath oddity

I have a Model 105, one line with *. The rivet on the back inside the stitching on the belt loop is installed opposite from what I've normally seen. It has a black head convex rivet but the head is installed inside the sheath and the the two attachment legs are outside.

First one I've gotten like this.

Took a couple photos of what I'm talking about. How common is this? It's the first I've seen but that's not saying much.

topgun, good photos and a interesting brad. Buck started putting model numbers on the sheaths in 1968. Does it have 'Buck' on the snap? DM

Yes, it has Buck on the snap. Getting the photo of the inside of sheath was frustrating but I finally got one good enough to show

Your knife stamped Buck* , is a 1967 model. But the Buck on the snap of the sheath appeared in 1968. Could the sheath be a mismatch?
Or I have some notes in error. Plus, with Buck history don't carve it in stone. A great find! DM

I bought it thinking the sheath was a little newer than the knife. I knew the sheath was odd but didn’t know exactly what I was looking at in the sellers pictures until I got it in hand. Seems like the two are close enough in age to where they might belong together if the knife was late 1967 and sheath early 1968, who knows! I bought it cause it looked different so I’m happy either way.

I just acquired a Buck* 102, the sheath has BUCK on the snap. Interestingly the rivet on the back for the belt loop is larger than on used on a three line 105. Yours could have had the back part of the rivet pop off and it is the 'clasp; that is remaining. Give me a while to get photos. With anything Buck, and if the timeline of changes is close, there is a possibility that they could overlap.

pjsjr, what does the backside of the rivet inside of your 102 sheath look like? The inside of my 105 sheath looks like the outside of your 102 sheath. I looked at some of my other sheaths to compare. Where my 105 has the two legs on the outside and head on inside, the other sheaths have the two legs inside and head outside. Maybe a new guy was working on the sheath the day mine was built?

I think you may have called it...new guy or somebody's doing a 'hey guys, watch this'!

Yeah, another odd one. Looks to be an old one cause it has the tooling mark on the belt loop and no model stamp.

Yes, you make a good point. The 2 (sheath & knife) could be less than 1 year apart. So, a great find. DM
