Recommendation? Sheath options for Kobun

The clip on my Secure-Ex sheath broke off and I was wondering if anyone knew of a good replacement sheath for the Kobun. It's an earlier model that does not have the separate metal clip on the sheath. Thanks.

Not knowing what setup you're using, or how you're wearing it, it's kind of hard to suggest options. Is there a reason some paracord and a clip can't be used to turn it into a dangler sheath?

One possible option is the Blade Tech Tek-Lok clip, although it might seem kinda bulky for such a lightweight knife.

If I remember correctly, the old sheath has the same size eyelets as the new ones, and these will fit the screws and posts for the Spyderco G-Clip (my design for Spyderco), which will allow vertical, horizontal, and angled carry on either side. Leave the broken clip in the sheath (helps retention), but grind or file it down almost flush with the sheath to allow room for the G-Clip if you are going to put it on that side. A quality new sheath will most likely cost more than a new Kobun, but a Spyderco G-clip will be $6-$10, depending where you get it. Easy fix. A lot of times when I do Gun & Knife shows, I sell a G-Clip with a new Kobun because it offers so many more carry options and will retrofit.

The g clip fits, I have one on mine. eBay also has several individuals that make kydex sheaths for the Kobun.

Be careful what you get off eBay. There is a big variance in the quality of "custom sheaths" across the board, and like I said, a good sheath will cost at least as much as a new Kobun.

You designed the g-clip? That’s awesome man! Yes you are right about eBay. I have a particular seller on there that makes great sheaths for a variety of blades that come with tek loks or g clips. I love it on mine. Carry it at 10 o’clock handle down, can’t see it under my shirt and I forget it’s there because the thin profile.

Nice set up. If you want, you can cut/grind a little off the bottom plate from the G_Clip to make it a smaller profile. WhenI know a sheath will be used primarily for horizontal or angled carry, I will take a little off the bottom part of the plate.

That’s nice work there. Thats a great idea, I will do that, thanks. It does jab me a little bit when I sit down.

That's why I mentioned it. After you cut or grind it, you will still have to "dress" the edges. You can use sandpaper or scotchbrite to smooth them down.

Interesting wrap.

Looks good, from what I can see.

The Kobun is an excellent candidate for wrapping due to the slim profile of the handle.

Would you mind posting, how you wrapped the Kobun handle, pls?

This is a good illustration. Just make X's across each side of the handle while twisting the cord. I gutted paracord and only twisted once across the handle each time instead of twice like this video. Its very easy and basic, but makes the handle feel way better, more hand filling.

Awesome. Thx:thumbsup:

Do you make a knot, when you reach the end or just shove the ends of the cord under the last 'X' and epoxy them or .... ?

Have Kobun, off to gut some paracord ... :D

I just tied a knot, cut the excess from each end, put a lighter to it and pressed it to the wrapped handle when it was hot. I guess there are many ways to do it but the good thing is the ends cross so you can easily tie a knot at the end.
