I have been trying to improve my digital picture taking. I have set up a big light box and I am still using my old Sony Mavica CD. I tried a new background this time. Constructive criticism or tips appreciated.

A few practice shots.

Wow, those are gorgeous, Chuck!

Have you thought about getting a stamp made of a Busse Combat logo?

Or something like that....

That would be bitchin!

I have a few tidbits of constructive criticism, if you don't mind. If you're photographing leather, I woud avid a background that is leather or leather-like in appearance. If you want to better highlight the subject, select a neutral background. I found that marbled white works well. I bought a 2'x3' sheet at Michael's (a craft shop chain), and like the results a lot.

Whatever you're using for lighting and setting white balance is working well, so continue doing whatever you're using for those aspects of the photos.

I very much like the clarity and crispness of your photos.

Thanks guys.

Ken, "I found that marbled white works well."

What kind of material is it made from?

rt014,
"Are they BATAC or BATACLE's?"

They are not for either. I'm not sure I can say.

Thanks Ken.

You would probably die laughing if I posted a pic of my lightbox. It is made out of a large piece of white cardboard, lots of staples and a piece of white plastic. :D

Chuddy Bear, you wrote:

I dunno. I get a chuckle when I look at my own setup. :)

In the end, all that matters is what the lens sees. ;)

What do you think about trying to play with the directionality of the fill light to see if the colors can be captured better? I.e. try to eliminate the white reflection from the bodies of the sheaths.

For example in the second photo the color of the tan sheaths is very clear and appealing. In the 3rd and to a lesser degree the 4th photos the glare from the light detracts from the black and burgundy of the sheaths... My photography-for-fun 2 bits.

awesome sheaths! You've been busy. Nice pictures also. I've tried that lightbox thing myself, just couldn't get it right, looks like you've got it though.

Excellent! Ligh, backround, details all perfect. Now with this fixed you may try with composition, again just look pay attention to this and you will find answer yourself.

Like if you notice - relatively big empty area on the picture does look as you forget to cut them. Five sheath photo in this terms looks bit better then three. However 15 sheath picture looks overcrowded and you do not see each sheath but one single bunch of them. You may position in diagonally or just sppred sheath over.

And this is not about making artistic photoes but just representing you product best - giving as more information as possible - and humans who are information consumers by nature usually like this.

Like make picture if possible with knife - just to see how whole package looks. Side look, back look (as you have on you last picture). Open and close and may be in more relaxed position - side look like this:

Sheath-58.jpg

So top and side will be seen at once...

However, I think they are already pretty good for website.

Thanks, Vassili.

Good looking sheaths AND photos! You may want to include some shots with the knife in the sheath. From a potential buyers perspective, I think it would help. (even if they are rats...)

Thanks guys.

With that coy answer, I'm guessing they are for ASH-1s :)
