Sheath preference for your EDC

Jeans for the folder

Kydex for the fixed - keeps the sweltering summer at bay... d^mn it's been hot this year in Dallas - I hate sweating through the clothes before breakfast... :D

80% of the time it's kydex, the other 20% it's leather. Kydex is either Dave Brown or my own creation, the leather is Gary Gill or OEM.

I like kydex on some knives, but I just emailed Stacy and Dwayne about four more sheaths, so I think you have your answer. :D

Much prefer leather myself, but wouldn't hesitate to buy from the kydex benders on this forum. One sheath from Dwayne, and Have had 2 excellent sheaths made by Mtn. Mike Bartol of Colorado (HR and SJTAC on the way). Good prices, too.

Leather all the way. Most of the time, some of it is against my skin, so, smooth leather and smooth grips are what works for me. A mink oil/beeswax combo keeps everything good in spite of the sweat.

I have about an equal # of Dwayne's and Mike's work. Both are top notch IMNSHO.

If you ever bag a nauga, you can have the hide, but save me the backstrap. LOL

I daily carry a Glock 26 in a kydex IWB holster, next to my own hide. Never had any problem with this method. A real plus is the kydex doesn't soak up the sweat or disform from the pressure, heat, or moisture.

Just my $0.02, but I take credit cards too:D

Leather is great. Beautiful, and can be a great example of craftmanship.

But I prefer kydex for EDC.

Kydex is tougher/more durable. Kydex offers better retention and never a need for straps to keep the knife in place, making for faster draws and easier returns. Kydex usually offers more carry options- it is rare to see a leather sheath that can be worn vertically, horizontally, around the neck, and be attached or taken off without removing the belt. Kydex does not absorb sweat, and will not harm the knife if it is stored in it for long periods of time.

Kydex may lack the class of leather, but it is just so practical and offers such good "performance".

I'm going to second this one as I have done exactly the same with a Glock 21. Leather is very classy, especially coming from some of the artists here, but for daily wear kydex is tough to beat for all the reasons stated.

small knives I prefer Kydex, buy brown  does great work
Large knives I generally use leather or nylon, but if I know in advance its hot and rainy I try to use kydex for the elements.

Same here.

I love the look and feel of leather and would prefer it 90% of the time -- especially on EDC sized blades.

But when weather dictates, Kydex is a sweet deal.
