Hello!
Hope this is the correct place to start this, but I need expert advise and peoples' experience.

I have a leather sheath for a Bark River and just DO NOT like the colour, it's that so called 'natural' shade. I always prefer a sheath in very dark brown or better, black. Rather than going to the expense of buying a new sheath how can I darken this one in a convincing manner? what preparations? How to dye it etc?

Thanks:thumbup:

Give Mike a buzz and see if he has a replacement...he will prolly have ya send the other sheath back

if not

Custom is the way to go bro

There are several leather crafters on this site...

Some are just prettier than others!!

To answer your question, Willgoy, this is how I would do it if I had your problem. May not be right but it's what I would do.

1) Use a deglazer to remove any sealer or other finish over the sheath.
2) Wet the outside of the sheath until it's uniformly damp.
3) Apply your desired leather dye.
4) When totally dry, buff and apply a conditioner.
5) When dry, buff and apply your sealer.
6) When dry, again, buff it up real nice.

All done.

Thanks!
I will give it a try myself.

No point in contacting Bark River as their sheathes are all the same colour, great knives though!

Get in touch with jreindustries.com. They make a lot of the BRKT sheaths, and can make sheaths for any of them in black leather. If they made the original, and it's still in new condition, they'll trade you pretty much straight across for it.

Mmmhh, funny that because JRE would NOT exchange a mint unused sheath for a black one if I paid postage and admin costs.....hence my creation of this thread

Really? Would they give you some sort of discount for it?

(It's probably my fault if they didn't! Long story! But Dan and Spen are good guys in my experience!)

Here's an update. JRE & I obviously got our wires crossed over this one.Dan has now offered me a free sheath and this pleases me, I will still return him the mint sheath as I don't need it.Well pleased:thumbup:
