Hi guys!

This year I´m planning on getting my first Ka-Bar Becker Knife. The one I´ve been looking at was the KaBar BK 16 Short Drop Point. As it says, the sheath is made of Cordura. But unfortunatelly no pics were there around. How do you guys the like the Becker sheaths in general. How do they hold up during use? The knife itself seems to be a great companion... how do you guys like it?

Thanks in advance.

The sheaths for the 15/16/17 are actually pretty decent. Sure, lots of people replace them, but with those models you're good to go out of the box and they take mods well.
Sorry, no picture handy.

I just got a BK-7 and had read in the past that the sheaths suck.....But the one that I got is very serviceable. It is not a bad sheath.

I like the tweener sheath a lot. It isn't the most convenient, but it can carry a lot of cool stuff.

Here is what is in my sheath:

Top to bottom:
BK17 (duh)
Ferro rod, case, and striker
Mini-Altoids tin with cotton balls and vaseline, Esbit cube, and fatwood
Buck 425 Mini-Buck

Thanks for the replies, fellows. Much appreciated.

It seems that the BK16 sheath is really nice indeed. Just another question: I´m a lefty, so I have to carry it lefthand side. Can knife be carried in the sheath the correct (left) way? (Means that the knife comes out of the sheath it is in the right direction)

The sheaths have gotten better overall. Added molle on some larger sheaths. Less rattle on the 11/14 sheaths. Functional sheaths with the Tweeners. Ka-Bar is paying attention to y'all.

The sheaths are for either side. The slip is not contoured to one blade direction. It's just a flat, vertical slip that runs the length of the sheath.

Yes. It can be carried just about anyway you can think of!

You could also take out the liner and mold it to the blade if you want a tighter fit. I've heard of some forum members doing that, and apparently it turns out nice if you do it right.

Thanks for your replies. You really got me itched on that knife :)

Definitelly a purchase for 2014!

The sheaths are very serviceable and hold up well. For belt knives, I personally prefer kydex. For larger knives like the BK9 I like the Becker sheaths with the Molle attachment system to have on the outside of a pack. Its all about your preference, but the tweener sheaths are pretty decent.

I ended up moving my 16 over to a Kydex rig, but it wasn't because of the original sheath. I like them quite a lot. My daughter's 16 rides in the stock sheath and she prefers it that way.

Well - I couldn´t decide if it should be a 16 or a 17. So I went another direction and bought the BK10 Crewman. :D :D :D

It should arrive here in a couple of days. The pics, as from the pics I´ve seen; it has a similar sheath at least in its designs to the 15/16/17 versions.

It seems to be a real brute - not as thick as the BK2 but still a brute ;)

The liner in the past would be molded by dropping it in boiling water.

You are going to love your BK10! Basically the BK10 is a BK2 that has been on a diet. And it is a brute. I love mine!!
Enjoy!
