Sheath question for smaller HI knives

I'm interested in a JKM-1 or something similar(like the one in the DOTD for 9/17), and I had a question about the sheath.

How tightly does the knife actually fit into the sheath?

I would wear the knife vertically on my belt, and I want to make sure that this knife will not fall out. This would including sitting, laying down, or even a light jog.

Thanks for the input

I concur. The JKM sheath is a "dangler" style. It's meant to keep the knife sort of loosy goosey on the belt so that you can sit or stand or whatever. However it also relies on only the weight of the knife to keep it tucked in deep into the sheath.

IMHO, if you had access to it and had the gumption, maybe try your hand at making your own. The JKM was the first knife that I ever made a sheath for. Granted. My work is nowhere near the quality of any of the fine leather artists of BFC, but after a couple of tries, I was able to construct a sheath that worked perfectly fine as a friction fit OR with a snapped keeper. It was a lot of fun for very little money:)

If you need to tighten the retention on your JKM-1 sheath go to an office supply store and pick up a box of the medium sized bulldog clips. Attach one along the spine edge of the sheath. This will tighten up the retention tremendously. You can adjust the retention by varying the position of the clip on the sheath.
