I got my first dangler sheath recently. When I wear it, the handle leans away away from my leg. The whole rig goes swinging around when I walk. I figure it needs a thigh strap to keep it in place. I would have had it made that way but the maker doesn't do thigh straps. Are dangles always this way. Is it mandatory that I use a thigh strap or am I just missing something? In case it matters, it's for a Swamp Rat M9.

Im a big fan of dangler sheaths as I live in an arctic climate and I prefer having the blade beneath my jacket.
In general I find that a lot of the US made danglers are a bit too low for my taste. At least they are way lower than the scandinavian dangler sheaths.
I prefer to have them make them a as "high" as possible when ordering and they work OK.
Alternatives would be to carry it baldric style. There are makers on this forum that could hook you up on that.
Occasionally I just put the tip of my sheath in my BDU thigh pockets.
Theres no way you that 9" chopper wont swing about when you walk if you don't strap it down.

I guess there is somewhat of a O-ring between the sheath and the dangler? Have you looked into swapping that for a smaller one? Ive done that on a few sheaths and that worked really well. Shoot me a PM and Ill send you the details on a retailer.

Big knives with a danger rig really should have some sort of strap or tie to keep them from getting all wonky. Everything from paracord to one of those Maxpedition leg straps is a good thing. I've used them from time to time.

Most of the sheaths I make will take a Maxpedition leg strap or a leather strap that I can make, and we've been working on a nylon strap with easy buckles that is approx 3/4" wide. Future work as we are swamped right now.

Again, any big, heavy knife with a dangler sheath really should have some sort of leg tie. Either provided by the maker or you can make one, that is if the sheath has some sort of place to put said strap or cord.

Please let me know if I can help in any way. :)

I like danglers. I don't tie them to my leg and they will swing some, but like Leatherman said I add a loop or something to the bottom so you can tie it off or lash it to a pack.

Danglers dangle

The angle of the dangle is proportionate to the mass of the ....................

oh crap, someone stop me before I go all math on your ................

dagnabbit! Family friendly sometimes isn't so much fun!!! :p

Never wore a dangler without a leg strap. The swinging would bug me I think. Still my favorite way to carry a large blade.

I wrote a post but it disappeared ?

Any how I think I am the sheath maker.

I made a post about a simple strap solution and explaining my thoughts on straps.

Now the thing about danglers.
They are great if you ever need to sit down in a car or on a folding chair, it is a good thing that it has the ability to swing.
You can get a drop down plat but that makes the whole rig ridged and not compatible with chairs and such.
you will be glad for that pivot point on several occasions, that coupled with the leg strap you should be able to jump and run all safe and secure.

Hope it helps

If its one of yours or any kydex it should have a million ways to attach it to legs, packs, horses, goats anything you like. Thats whats great about kydex ;)

Yes Dave it's your sheath in question. Beautiful sheath by the way. Thanks for making it happen. I love it. I got the dangler because I don't like having to reach so high up to get my blade. I didn't realize it would swing so much. I think next time I will go with a drop loop. I'm not a fan of the teklocks because they ride so high.
