Anyone on a list for Armoralleather? HAs anyone received a completed sheath recently?

I ordered one back at the end of May. I inquired about it last week, and received a response today. I was told I could expect the wait for the sheath to be twice that of the original estimate, which was five months in May.

To their defense, they did say in a disclaimer that "Due to many unforeseen circumstances in the making of sheaths we regret that we can only estimate, not promise a completion time. Dwayne works more then 12 hours a day almost every day to make your sheaths, he is the only one making the sheaths to up hold our standard of excellence. Your understanding is greatly appreciated."

But that doesn't really help the bad taste in my mouth. That forces me to find a sheath for my Badger in the interim, and to do it quickly, since deer season starts in November.

Any suggestions as to what company I can have a leather sheath made in a reasonable amount of time?? I would prefer not to have Kydex, as it has no life to it.

As for my Armoralleather order, I will be writing Stacey back to let her know that they still have my order, but I am a little disappointed.

for an "off the shelf" sheath, the spec ops fits nicely.

for leather quickly, send chuddy bear a pm.

dwayne and stacy had some family problems recently, so i imagine that is a factor. also, dwayne makes sheaths for deploying active military first, active military/law enforcement second, then everyone else.

i have a running list with them, so get sheaths sporadically. though it has been a few months since i have recieved anything. but im not worried or concerned, i know ill get what i ordered in due time.

I got one not too long ago. It was a piece of cowhide dynamite. I love it.

I like to deal with www.vessleatherworks.com, high quality, reasonable prices, quick turnaround, and a great guy to deal with.

His father is in poor health,& He's wanting to allow the family to spend what remaining time they have, visiting with him. He's still working on sheaths.
I too, have several sheaths on order....IMHO,The time spent with their grandfather/father has out weighed me getting a sheath...Sheaths can be had anytime. The same cannot be said about our parents.Besidesall the knives are in the Utra-cool cardboard w/insp.# ;)
I understand what you've stated. The wait will be worth it.:D

I've been dealing with Rainwalker. His turnaround time is quick, and he has about 30 years experience.

I've never gotten a sheath from Armoralleather, I'm still on the list as well. I've even tried to buy off their "leather ganza" page, but most of my emails went unanswered. But Dwayne is a popular sheath maker, and his father is sick, plus I think he's got a day job. It would be no wonder why he's so backed up, so I'm not complaining here.

Anyway, here is a picture of a Rainwalker sheath, turnaround time was approx 2 weeks. I've got an order in right now for a Badger sheath. I will post pics once I receive it. He's a great guy, and wonderful to deal with, and promptly returns emails, same day infact. He's the guy I will be dealing with now for all my sheath needs. Quality stuff and fast turnaround, and great prices. My Badger sheath was only $40, and that's shipped.

I was on the list for about eight months. I made it to the top last week and ordered two sheaths.

I had no idea of the family issues. If thats the case, then I can understand and accept the delay. My best wishes to them.

I will remain on the list. I ordered a black sheath with an Oak leaf carving (contrasting color). I am very much looking forward to receiving it. Just hope it comes before March.

I will take the advice and email a the makers mentioned. I'll let you know what happens.

You ordered something for a custom-tooled sheath. Those are gonna push you back no matter WHO you go to (short of a part-timer who hasn't built up a backlog yet).

Dwayne LOVES makin those things, but they don't hit top-of-the-priority list only b/c it takes him many x longer. You can also look at it this way - on a per-hour basis, you are getting far more of a bargain than one of his regular production sheaths. By far.

Be patient. You ordered something very customized. It's gonna take time. It WILL be worth it when you get it. And keep in mind - if this is for a current-production knife (BATAC, AD/MS/GW, BM) you stand a good chance that Dwayne has stock sheaths within an arms reach for a temporary fix.

FWIW, I'm biased. I love Dwayne's work. Beautiful stuff.

If it helps things AW, just send me or the wife an e-mail and I'll send you one of our "production" sheaths on loan till I get to yours.

Yea, the whole deal with my fathers battle with cancer started a while back and its just getting worse by the week. I am back in full work mode now and will be for quite a while barring any unmentionable circumstances. I have a few more short visits planned for the aformentioned "Grandpa/Grand Daughter time", one in particular is going to fall around Thanksgiving so I've got lots of leather grinding time.

I betcha you'll have your sheath before March AW, judging by when you ordered it wont be quite that long.

Thanks for all the support guys! :) It really means a lot to read this when I am running full tilt trying to get things back to semi normal. I dont like getting this far back logged, not one bit, but it happens. Two of my holster making buds have over a year wait on thier work, when I talked to them I fet a LOT better. :p

Oh and yea! I love the artwork! Carving leather is one of my favorite parts of the process, and this one looks to be a real beauty if it comes out like I want it to.

I forgot to add that as Mark mentioned I do special work for deploying soldiers, and special needs Law Enforcement and Fire Departments. But the focus is on the deploying soldiers, they dont have the luxury of being able to wait for a piece of work, sometimes they only have a week or two to get their stuff together.

It doesnt happen as much lately, thank goodness, but there for a while I was doing several a week. I was thinking something big was about to happen, then I hear about Iran. eek!

Law Enforcement and Firemen dont normally get cuts in the wait, unless theres some odd circumstances ....... a memorial being one that was rather important. Rather I try to do something special, like comping extras, as small carving or stamping. Just my little way of saying "Thanks".

you are truly a class act dwayne! and leather rose is pretty cool too!!!

I dont have much experience with Rainwalker, though he does beautiful work. A real good quick turn around alternative to my never ending wait time I'd go for ChuddyBear. He's very active on this forum and I've seen a lot of his work, and had some good communications. :)

Rainwalker and Chuddy are both excellent sheathmakers. They do top-notch work. I wouldn't hesitate to order from them.

I'll still wait for Dwayne... :D:thumbup::thumbup:

Anytime! ;)

Dwayne, Thank you for the vote of confidence. As a newer sheath maker this means a great deal to me. I have been working very hard at continuing to improve with my leatherwork. It is kind of funny how something that I took on just to make myself a sheath has taken on a life of its own. I have played around a little bit with carving and stamping and for me as a part time maker its is just too time consuming. It takes me a half a day just to make a small carving and I screw it up about 70% of the time. I always refer guys to you when they ask for artwork on their sheaths, your carvings are simply stunning.

Thanks bro, :) You have been our go to guy for a while now. When we cant meet the needs of a certain customer timewise and price wise, off they go. :D

I mentioned it before, but if you need help on a project, please dont hesitate to ask questions... I love talking leather. :D

Got a few on order since March. Looking forward to seeing them when Dwayne gets to them. Can't always forsee what life brings you, so no worries here. Waiting patiently. :)

Thanks for the offer Dwayne. No need to send a loaner. I am going to send the knife out to Rainwalker and have him fit a horizontal carry sheath, and when the one you are making me comes in, I'll have one in vertical carry.

I have to apologize. In hindsight, I think I would have gone about this in a different way. If it sounded like I called you out, I sincerley apologize, because that was not my intent. I posted to get ideas as to another sheath maker, but my emotions got the better of me, and it ended up with me writing about them. If I had a problem, or a bad taste as I put, I should have taken it up privately with you or Stacey.

Just hope you still want to sell me a sheath. I have been looking forward to getting it, and to hear that the engraving part is something you enjoy, well, that makes it just that much more special. I am sure the outcome will please the both of us.

P.S. With two sheaths, I think that calls for two knives! At least thats how I will justify it to my wife. More Infi!
