Here is my 2nd sheath. Decided to redo one for this knife, the other one was a little too short. Learned a few more things. The dye is not perfect but I actually like it that way.

Thanks for looking.

Patrice,
Your leather skills are certainly improving ! A noticable improvement in the stitching especially. Also burnishing the top edges and remembering to leave out the stitch spacing marks across the top groove make a notable difference.

Passing along words from my mentor "The devil is in the details, but the details are what will set you apart from most makers"-Dave Cole

Great work recognizing the areas that needed attention and adressing them.

Can you show us a pic of the back side and welt ?

Patrice,
I'm not sure all new leatherworkers do this but I've yet to actually leave enough leather around the outside of the stitching to be able to sand to a seamless edge. I cut my welt 3/8 wide with stitching 3/16 from edge and this = screwed. I'm planning on 1/2" outside the stitch minimum from now on.

Just sharing some newbie thoughts- Josh

I am in the same boat Josh. Maybe the pros are more exact in their cutting and fitting and that 3/8 is enough for them but I'll do like you and try 1/2 on the next one. Thanks for sharing.

Nice work. Both very nice but I like the deeper one better too !

Thanks for the good words Dusty.

Sandy, 1/2 it is then. Does 3/16th from the edge for the stitching sounds about right? Thanks.

Patrice

I don't do many bigger knives, so don't have to do big knife leather very often either. When is gets time to do a big'un, I'm always surprised at how enjoyable it is to do large sheaths. Old stiff fingers welcome the more open spaces. Only tight spot on this Mexican loop is stitching the second half of the loop. Wanted this big blade (12 1/2" overall) to have a sheath that could look at home on a fancy gun rig. Hope it came out that way. What do y'all think?
