Sheath repair question

I love my one and only KFU more then anything, it is certainly my go to knife but when I noticed that the stitching was coming out of the belt loop I stopped carrying it due to a fear of losing it.

As you can see the stitching is starting to come out. I thought of just gluing it down, since you can not get a needle in to repair it, I was also thinking on just taking the whole thing apart to repair the belt loop then restitch it all.

Thoughts?

Hey man, do you have a picture of the whole sheath?

OOoooooooohhhhhhhhhhh....I don't know anything about leatherwork, but I DO KNOW about what's inside that sheath!!!! You have a GREAT knife... hopefully someone will be along to help out with the stitching recommendation so you can carry that bad boy again!!!

(feel free to post more pics of the knife outside the sheath)

rough and ready answer: take knife out of sheath, push hard on sides of belt loop so it puckers away from the rest of the sheath a little and squeeze in some "shoe goo" - then you can use 2 pair of needle nose or duckbill pliers to pull the thread tight, tie a square knot in the 2 loose ends, and carefully melt the "fuzzies" down with a lighter.

I know crap about sheathwork. I will get with Carl to see what he says.

HELL HE CAN MAKE A NEW ONE CHEAPER THAN FIXING THAT ONE, THE KNIFE NEEDS TO BE WATER FITTED TO THE SHEATH,THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN

Thanks everyone for the advice.

I think what happened was that since I use it all the time the knife cut or rubbed down the stitching on the inside of the sheath there the belt loop is attached. Maybe a rivet in the middle of the box stitch would help.

but then you would have a rivet inside the sheath scratching up the knife.

I had a similar Kephart & sheath set-up and at least my sheath from Carl seemed a bit too tight for my knife. I had to really force it in there & as a result it was cutting leather inside. I can tell from the worn bulge near your ricasso that yours seems a bit tight as well.

Guys these sheaths are pre-order, We buy them from Carl with out him fitting them to the knife. Its kinda are fault b/c of the thickness or width we make the knives not his.Just wanna clear that up.Ive worked with the man going on 11 years and he is one hellova leather crafter. But these knives need water fitted,As he stresses that.

If it's a good sheath it's worth taking it apart and re-stitching. I do this with all my leather sheaths so I can seal them with Snow-Seal.

I agree that it's probably better to just make a new sheath. Wet molding would also help. It looks to be a simple design to make.
Cheers

Here is how I do mine, dont know if its the right way. Wrap knife in saran wrap, fill sheath with warm water for 5 sec. Dump out, mold to knife. Let dry
