hello guys, i have a question or two about sheath repair. i just recieved a hunting knife that i won on ebay, i got a great deal on it and the overall condition is excellent but the leather sheath needs a little work. the stitching is gone at the tip of the sheath and i would like to repair it. can someone tell me what would be the best way to do that? the sheath has rivits along the sides but it could use one at the tip as well. also i've seen a nickel silver reinforcement trim on some older german sheaths that i think would look great on this sheath. any advice you have would be greatly appeciated, i can post pics of the sheath if nessessary. thanks in advance, andy r.

Pictures are worth a thousand words. If you can post a few pics, the advice would be easier to give.

Right off though, if the leather is in good shape structurally you can simply re stitch the tip running past a few stitches on each side to lock them in. Tandy and Hobby Lobby both carry small amounts of thread and needles.

here's is the sheath, it doesn't look to bad to me. just point me in the right direction, i think it will be a cool project.

Ah! There doesn't appear to be a welt in there ( the leather strip usually sandwiched between the front and back)

That does cause some concern as a welt is there to protect the stitches and you in case the blade goes through.

Is this knife to get a lot of use? ie camping, hiking etc? or is it to be an heirloom piece?

The last hole in the tip there looks pretty thin, might just be the angle of the pic. With no welt in the sheath, If you really like the knife my suggestion would be to have a properly built sheath made for it by one of the fine makers here. If your dead set on re-stitching it then Tandy carries a small stitching kit for a few bucks that will do the job.
