Sheath

When looking for a tactical knife or utility, I find there to be little mention of the sheath that comes with it. It's pit fall and positives.
I am looking for the production side of the subject and not the custom knives.
I have had allot of knives and the one I carry is usually justified by how good the sheath is. Let's face it what good is a sheath if it does'nt hide the knife well or if it sticks in the sheath.
I would appreciate anyone's insight on this subject, including any personal reviews on the production blades. Who do you think makes the worst and the best in a tactical sense.

I'm searching right now for a quality sheath too. Not much info on sheaths here.

Check out the Triple Aught Design New TAD OS and TAD-S1 Sheath at Triple Aught Design's website. Looks like the best sheath out there.

Check out the Buck sheaths at the Buck knives website. They look like they are well made.

I have big folders and I don't know if either of these brands will accomodate my 5.5" closed folders. I plan to buy a Sifu and Pentagon elite II so I need to find a sheath big enough for these huge mega folders. SOG doesn't make one.

I do custom leather work for many knife owners. For a very reasonable cost your favorite knife can have the quality leather sheath or pouch it deserves.

Check out Normark's website (a.k.a. Eric Noeldechen). I have his Concealex sheath for the F1 and it is a superb piece of design. He makes sheathes for the whole Fallkniven line and a lot of others, as well as for tools.

I've carried fixed blades for almost 18 years on my web gear. For the most part the factory sheaths are junk. I went and got a aftermarket sheath for my Randall #14 as leather will rot under jungle conditions.

Now I've purchased a BlackHawk sheath for my Livesey Air Assualt, the kydex sheath that came with the AA is a excellent sheath but I needed somthing a tad more low profile for daily wear. The kydex sheath that came with my Busse #9 was less than stellar but the #9 is in a alert bag and not worn daily.

Thanks for the replies. Brad, I really like the looks of those kydex sheath's. Does anyone have a kydex sheath for the CS Master Tanto that they offer from factory. I believe there made by Bladetech. They look sturdy, but I was wondering if there comfortable and if they can be mounted horizontal.

Hey Sig....

I've got a sheath here for a CS 6" Tanto,, but not Exactly sure which one it is...

Glockman could probably tell me if it is the Master Tanto or not.....

Brad....

Which knife did you buy that came supplied with one of my sheaths ???

Anyway hope you like it..

I went to the Spirit of Steel show in Mesquite Tx. I picked up the pirahana by Jeff Diotte. Sheath fit is excellent.

Hey Brad...

Excellent....

Jeff makes some sweet knives Eh !!

Glad you like the sheath. The entire thing is a nice tight little package..

I have the same knife in Damascus with blue G-10 scales...

Brad try wearing that knife right up front like a belt buckle... It's Very comfortable there...

Thanks...

Thought I'd kick this back up there. Normark I'm sure you'll being seeing my bussiness soon. Your designs look like exactly what I'm looking for.
Here is some of my opinions on the sheath's that have come with knives that I have bought.
CS Master Tanto has a high quality leather sheath. Fast to draw from but does not offer anything other than a belt carry. Kydex sheath available, but I have not seen or used them in person.
Sog, I have several so here's a quick run down. Goverment S13 well made nylon sheath for vertical carry on belt with smooth draw. Sog Pentagon well made leather sheath that offers same uses as the S13. Sog Tsunami leather sheath was one that I was'nt happy with, I found it to be to thin. I aquired a kydex sheath for it. Sog now offers these sheaths with most of thier Knives now. These kydex sheaths which I now have for 3 of thier other fixed blades work great. There quick to get out quite, and they carry in multiple positions.
Gerber Mark 11, I felt the nylon sheath had a better fit, but the leather sheath serves it's purpose just fine. Both are set up for belt carry with leg tie downs. I have a few other platic sheaths for my Gerbers. The one I've had the longest fell apart but the new one's seem to be a bit stonger. I think the best bet for these will be to get a kydex sheath built for them.
I hope this helps anyone who is looking to buy one of these knives. Any other opinions of these or other models would be appreciated. I'm personally curious how well built the sheath is for BM Nimvarus. I noticed that they changed the design from all kydex to a mix with what I believe in nylon and kydex. I was curious which is better and if the original is still available.

I've been using Blackhawk sheathes for all my straight knives for about two years. I like them because of how secure they hold my knives, especially when jumping out of perfectly good aircraft, and how easy it is to draw them.
OK, now the ad part, my wife started selling Blackhawk stuff last month, sheathes included. She offers an additional 20% off if you are mil, prior mil, police, ems. The specs on the sheath are:
The ADKS (airborne deluxe knife sheath) is made of 1000 denier ballistic Nytaneon nylon. This knife sheath can be worn as a drop leg, on the belt or on web gear. It comes standard with a utility pouch (great for a multi tool or pistol mag) and a leg tie down. Internally it has a TalonFlex hard protective insert.

hope this helps,

.

I have my Cold Steel Stainless Tanto (6 inch blade) sitting in a Noeldechen IWB sheath I bought from him awhile back (my 2nd). Great fit & finish. Very good price, and EXCELLENT service!

Eric,

The same sheath (of yours) will fit ALL of the Cold Steel (5&3/4 and 6 inch) Tanto Knives, including the "old" and the "new" styles, and the "Master" series.
