Hi Ron, I'm thinkinng of getting Desert Dagger and or Govenrment Agent this summer. can you tell me what type of sheath comes with each knife and a little about there history? It might sound funny, but when I know the history the knife it just means a little more to me.

Thanks in advance,

Heber Ellsworth

Hi Heber,

Both knives come with Kydex sheaths. These are among our only knives that we have some alternate sheath options: nylon & leather.

If you've not held either of these knives, you will be quite surprised with their feel and balance. Average weight and definitely not blade heavy.

There have been three standard versions of the Government (and one special edition) that shared dimentions and general construction.

  • Government: AUS6A stainless steel with a brushed finish.
  • Recon Government: Carbon steel and blued (discontinued model).
  • Government Agent: AUS6A with gray powder coating.

In the early '90s, SOG produced four knives as a special edition series for collectors. The Government and Desert Dagger had brass crossguards and aluminum pummels along with stacked leather washer handles. The Northwest Ranger and Pentagon came with Cocobolo wood handles. Each piece in this series was limited to 250.

I'm not sure exactly what kind of history you're looking for. Maybe a more specific question? I'll do my best…I promise! Probably, my educated guess is that they were designed to cut stuff.

Dang, you are really fast at getting back to people. Do you ever sleep?

Along with the information you already gave me I am also interested in knowing Why and when the knives were made. Like were they made as part of the war effort or because some Government/military group wanted them?

You have done such a good job advertising the knives that I can't deside which to get. The Desert Dagger or Government (Wish you still made the Recon Government).

I forgot to ask, can you post some pictures of the different Sheaths and what sheath do you think would work best with my Military Webbed Belt (Gun Belt?)?

Hi Heber,

Sleep? What's that? I didn't get that written into my employment contract.

Both of these knives entered our line in the late 1980's (sorry I don't have better dates for you). Neither were designed for a specific military contract. Rather, they were designed for general field use. Over the years, soldiers have bought and used both.

We unfortunately do not have photos of our various sheaths with the exception of this one for the SEAL Pup:

This is representative of all our Kydex sheaths. The sheaths for our smaller fixed blade knives have the "boot clip" on the front. Our Kydex sheaths are outstanding for web gear applications (you can also see the buckle on top to allow for dropped carry with an extension) and are the standard with these knives. Both the nylon and leather sheaths are very standard in design and can be bought from us as an aftermarket accessory.

I hope this helps you out. Resolving the dilemma of which knife to get is easy for me to make on your behalf...buy them both!

Thanks for the information, you have helped me out a lot. I probably will get both of them in the near future.

Will deside on the sheaths after I get the knives. Keep up the good work.
