Sheaths for clipits

I already have the sheath from Mike Sastre for my Delica which carries the Delica closed.

What I am interested in getting is a kydex sheath for my Delica which holds the knife open. I live in Baltimore City where the concealment of a fixed blade is illegal but according to Maryland case law the concealment of an already open folder is legal. (Go figure)

So does anyone already make a kydex sheath for locked carry of the Delica or do I have to contact a custom sheath designer???

If I do have to get a custom sheath, who can make one for me without taking all of my money???

Think,

I've also been making IWB sheaths for folders with the blade deployed for quite a while. These work well with James Keating's Drawpoint Method, and curiously enough, are called "the Drawpoint". Email me for more details.

Think,

What about the rest of Maryland? Is concealed carry of a fixed blade illegal state wide? Also, I note that you carry a Delica. Is that due to blade length restrictions in our fair state? I have had no luck getting straight answers to my questions, so I'd appreciate some feed back.

TIA.

Dave.

Dave,

I think that fixed blades cannot be concealed anywhere in Maryland. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'd rather play it safe. Apparently fixed blades offend the law makers because they are "readily available" to inflict harm and are as quick as a switchblade since they are already open. This is stupid since you can have an open folder on your person.

I used to think that I could carry anything. I spent years carrying a balisong on a belt sheath (that was stupid) and I've concealed close to everything. I found out that I was breaking laws (luckily from research and not from a LEO). Now I like to play it safe.

As to the Delica,

The popular notion that I've heard is that your folder should have a bladelength under 4". I don't know if this means the cutting edge or the whole blade.

I carried an Endura before I switched to the Delica but it got me in trouble. I haven't had trouble in Maryland but it was almost confiscated from me at the Holocaust museum in DC. They said that 3" was the limit in DC. I decided that I'd rather have a knife that I can carry anywhere in Baltimore and in surrounding states.

I like the full sized handle on my Endura better though. I am considering getting the blade on my Endura reground to a smaller size. If you know of a good place in Maryland where I can get the blade on my Endura shrunk down I would appreciate it.

Think,
You made me laugh with your experience at the Holocaust Museum in D.C. Not so much because it's funny but because exactly the same thing happened to me. I had to stash my BM CQC-7 in some bushes across the street when I went there in '96 because the security guy said no good. I thought about trying to "tin" him but decided it wasn't worth it. Knife memories.

Glad to hear that I'm not the only knife knut who'se had to stash knives in bushes on occassion. I hate to bury my little babies but they'd rather get dirty than confiscated!

Knives find a way to make themselves useful almost daily but they also find a way to get you in trouble once in a while! It's worth the tradeoff IMHO

BTW, if anyone else who is reading this thread is interested in getting a sheath for their Delica, a fellow forumite sent me this url:

I'm tempted to order this but I'm still waiting to get mail from Mike Sastre about his Drawpoint sheaths. (If you're reading this, Mike: where's my info sheets?
