Sheaths like spec ops for the 1311?

I have a 1311 arriving tomorrow. Ive seen many leather and kydex options and I'm sure I could rig up a kydex sheath to attach to my molle gear.

However I like the Spec Ops sheaths but they don't seem to carry one long enough to handle the 1311. And I just love the idea of strapping it securely to my Molle gear and or having the option to carry it on my side.

Could anyone point me in the right direction here for a product or sheath maker that could make a something close to the Spec ops style sheath to fit the big ole 1311?

Any advice is welcome thanks!

I'd recommend a sandwich-style kydex sheath from either Buy Brown, Mashed Cat, Rainwalker or Okuden - not necessarily in this order as all of them are quality made. These will have eyelets on both sides of your blade which can be used to attach to Molle Gear, or just about any type of carry style you can think of from Baldric, Scout, Dangler, Drop-leg, etc..... All you would need is about 50' or less paracord or something similar and some imagination, heck you could even rig up some sort of a pouch to it if you wanted.....:D

I don't know if it's MOLLE-compatible, but the Lost Mountain Iron Works sheaths always reminded me of the Spec Ops Combat Masters. Nylon sheath with a Kydex (I think) insert and front pouches. You'd have to hunt for them on the exchange since the company no longer produces them.

Edit: Just checked. They are MOLLE-compatible. Good luck!

I'm thinking that they may not have made anything large enough to fit the 1311, and if so it may be extremely difficult to find one.....

Good point... I know the Basic 11s fit in them, but I forgot just how huge the 1311 is.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! Perhaps Ill just go Kydex and research some options for that from the makers you listed.

I'd recommend checking with David Brown of Buy Brown Kydex, he might still have some 1311 sheaths in stock and on sale. His email is azgunnut@earthlink.net I really love the way his kydex fits the res-c handles which are on the 1311, the retention is about perfect for my tastes.

I'll post some pics tomorrow morning of my 1311 Buy Brown sheath which I won in BuyBrownie Claus' contest this Christmas. I've rigged it up for baldric-carry with about 15 or so feet of 550 paracord, which I learned to rig up from a thread on David's sub forum here at BF. Here's the link with the step by step if you're interested.....

Of the other makers I recommended, both Rainwalker & Okuden have significant lead times for their products. Also, Eric at Mashed Cat & Al at Azwelke have about a two week lead times. You will likely be satisfied with any of these makers but David, Eric or Al should be able to get your sheath to you the fastest.

Just make sure you get one with rivets on both sides for maximum versatility in making rigs.

Kydex is probably gonna be the way to go, you could add a Molle back from Esee to have belt and be able to attach it to your molle gear too. Maybe use the back from a esee junglas sheath.

All great suggestions so far. I don't have much to add, but I will add a little about some of the suggestions.

The ESEE MOLLE back is a great way to add both a drop leg belt attachment and MOLLE to a Kydex sheath (like others have said, make sure to get the sheath with eyelets on both sides.) Using the MOLLE back and a couple of small pouches attached through the eyelets, you can turn a Kydex sheath into a survival rig. You can get really creative with it, especially with a 13" knife!

Semper Paratus Tactical makes EXCELLENT tactical nylon sheaths. They make all of their sheaths with a Kydex insert that is made to custom fit your blade. As far as custom tactical nylon, you can't beat the quality and craftsmanship of their sheaths.

Best of luck finding what you are looking for.

Are there even more custom nylon sheath makers than Semper Paratus? I don't think so:confused:

I know it's not what your asking, but as an alternative, there's machete specialist for something simple.

I'm not sure if I'm keeeping my 1311 when it gets here, but if I do, I'll order a simple sheath from them...

You've all given me a lot to think about thanks a ton! Im inquiring with Semper Paratus now but if that doesn't work out then I may just go with the kydex sheath and get some molle backing and get creative.

Thanks for all the input guys:thumbup:
