i was wondering what kind of sheaths you guys like. i have seen alot of the ones with beltloops, that that go right on your belt. then i have seen some that have a little clip thing that goes on a belt loop(the loop on your pants). and i saw one that has a shoulder strap. and a few boot knives. the one that i haven seen is the ones that i like the most. i am not sure really how to explain this so im going to give it a shot.

i dont know if any of you have seen the gun holsters that most seals use, the ones that get straped to your leg with two straps and some of them have a clip that goes on your belt loop so it does not slide down your leg. this is the kind of sheath i am looking for. now i have seen sheaths that look as if you can buy straps and just attach them to the sheath and use it like this but i am not really sure.

 ???

Chazz...

They are called Drop Leg sheaths or holsters..
although I don't make them,,you can have a look at my site..

If you need some direction as where to get them,, please feel free to drop me a note, and I will put you directly in contact with the makers who do..

Semper Paratus Tactical
A Word sheaths Semper Paratus Tactical:
After leaving active duty with the U.S. Army Infantry, I spent 3 years working in the tactical nylon industry. Having seen several pieces of equipment fail
due to poor design or manufacture, I recognized the need for quality hard use nylon gear. After working for a major manufacturer of quality tactical nylon
gear, I started Semper Paratus Tactical. I manufacture custom gear, built to customer specifications with an eye towards uncompromising quality. If I wouldn't
carry it myself in the field, I won't bother building it.

I am proud to be supplying nylon sheaths for Busse Combat Knives. These sheaths can be adjusted for belt wear or worn as a drop leg. Each sheath has a Kydex
liner fitted to the specific model of Busse ordered. A removable leg strap is included for blades over 6". All units are configured to be reversible for
right or left-handed carry and include an integral accessory.

For a Semper Paratus Tactical sheath , please contact Dan directly.

thanks for the feedback but i was not really looking to purchase a custom sheath. i just bought a benchmade 705 and i am looking for a low priced fixed blade. i took a look at the gerber harsay and it looks like i can rig it for a drop leg sheath but i dont want to buy it then not have the sheath.

and if you know of any other knives in that price range?

Hey Chazz...

If you are going to buy the Harsey,, then you'll be wanting a new sheath..
Gerber sheaths are notorious for being P's O S...

Trust me,, spend a few extra $$ and get a good drop leg if thats what you want from a good maker,,there are a few here..

You may have spent a littlemore than you wanted,, but I assure you,, you won't regret doing it...

i think okuden.net has what you are looking for but then again $$$ ;)

eek 40-60 dollars for a sheath. can i get away with a benchmade sheath? i saw one on knifecenter.com for about 40 dollars (then knife and sheath)

If you're looking to go with a relatively cheap fixed blade with that type of sheath, I would recommend checking out the CRKT M60 line. They're good knives - durable and hefty, with a decent edge. The sheaths are absolutely fantastic, and it sounds like they're exactly what you're looking for.

CRKT M60s

Cheers,

Mike

i saw those knives and said "holy crap that is EXACTLY what i was looking for" then scrolled down the page and saw $99.00

but i found them for 53 on sale at knives plus.

thanks alot i am intent on buying one.

Hey Chazz...

Go here and see the sheath makers..

http://www.bussecombat.com/sheaths/

Okuden and Semper make excellent Droppers...
Not sure if Buy Brown makes that type of sheath..

$40-60 is nothing for a sheath.. Are you looking for something that looks cool,, or something hardcore, and will last you many years, and probably the life of the knife ?

OEM sheaths can range, from downright a waste of materials to run of the mill,, and a few can be really,,really good. Most have very little to no retention,, and fit can very from knife to knife...

I can tell you in all honesty that the majority of Gerber sheaths that cross my bench are garbage, with a wide range of problems from snaps blown off, to stitching coming undone, to knives cutting right through the nylon and everything in between..

CRKT sheaths aren't much better, the majority I've seen are injection molded plastic, and rention is sloppy and hit and miss...

And please don't think I'm trashing Gerber or CRKT,a lot of OEM sheaths are like this,, with a few exceptions...I like these companys and have many knives from each..

If you are on a budget,, go have a look at Beckers..They come with a decent sheath that would be something like what you are looking for..

Swamprat knives would be another choice,,however they are a little more money, and you'd still have to wrangle up a sheath for it..

i couldnt care less if you talked about gerber and crkt. and thanks for giving me the heads up on the crkt sheath. no offence to the person that recomended me. from what you say i think i am going to wait a little and then get me a nice fixed blade good sheath.

i em very new to this forum and new to the wide world of knives. the benchmade is my first high end purchase.

Sure, custom sheaths (and knives for that matter) will almost always be better than production models. But I speak from experience with the CRKT model. It's a nice sheath. Good stitching, comfortable, adjustable, and so on and so on. It has yet to present me any problems. And Normark - it's not injection molded plastic. It's cordura, with a zytel insert, very much along the lines of a Becker sheath, but with leg straps.

Cheers,

Mike

Hey Chazz...

I stand corrected..

Most of the CRKT sheaths I've seen are Zytel molded..Little retention, and usually very poor clips..
The Ryan Plan B case in point.. Great knife,, but the sheath is terrible....

As far as the nylon sheath goes..
I've got a barrel of these types of sheaths in the shop...

Decent enough. However then with some use,, they start to fall apart.. and fall apart in areas which compromise the security of the knife...

In general they are Ok,, but not terribly Great...

well i am not going to use it day to day, i might not even use it in a week. i like the drop leg sheaths becasue they are more secure then just hangin off of our belt. it's main use for me is going to be camping/hiking.

what about the benchmade sheaths ?

I like the Benchmade pouches. I always use them at work. Small sheaths for my 4 inches-closed knives (Delica, Mini Grip, Calypso Jr, 705) and large sheaths for bigger knives (Grip, 710). The large sheath is also a perfect fit for the Inova X5T, Inova T1 and Surefire E2E.

yea i was thinkin of gettin a bm sheath for my new 705 but then i squished that idea because i like it in my pocket better (i came to that conclusion in my head) i figured rather than open the sheath i can just go and get it in my pocket

-i was talkin about fixed blade sheaths-

@ Chazz,

here's a pic of the CRKT M60 + sheath. It's a quick shot, but it shows the major features. Note that it comes with a second retention strap for the handle (removable). My only complaint is that the accessory pouch is a bit small (smaller than that of a BK9 sheath); it will fit a folder or a SAK, but it's not big enough for a mini- survival kit or a good sized sharpening stone.

@ Normark,

I'm with you on the quality of most CRKT sheaths. This one is the only real exception I've encountered. The Hammond ABC isn't too bad.

Cheers,

Mike
