I have seen many knives on here most are fine pieces of work.
I have seen knives that i would buy in a heart beat and knives that would not suit my uses. But they are still fine pieces of work.

Without offending anyone, if a person sees a knife that he would love to purchase but maybe the sheath isn't one that He thinks would work for his application what should he do..

I hunt in northern British columbia and am in the back country for weeks at a time. A good knife is essential. So to walk for miles or on a quad I have been concerned about my knife falling out of some of the sheaths I've seen.

So i guess my question is..Is it unethical to ask a knife maker if he could or would make a sheath that would fold over the knife or clip it in.????????.......

I wouldnt be offended at all if I were asked that. I get requests all the time for custom sheaths.

I'd think that as long as it's discussed upfront, then it would be ok. The maker would know ahead of time if it's within their realm of feasibility and could still take the knife order....and have someone else make the sheath if they don't want to. Happens all the time.

I know that when the knife is ordered I ask what kind of sheath they want and make one to suit their needs.I have even made two sheaths for some knives that were users. One field sheath and one dressy sheath for EDC use. Just ask beforehand and most makers will help you out.Dave:)

I can't imagine any maker would have a problem with an up-front request for a particular type of sheath. If they were unable for whatever reason to meet your request, you could simply have them send the knife on completion to a specialty sheath maker and take it from there. Either way, you should have no problem getting just what you want. This is one of the neat things about the whole custom knife gig. :)

I like a rayskin wrap, dyed to match the handle of the knife.Pretty easy actually, dye rayskin, cut and shape then just contact cement to sheath.

Definitely express your interests right up front about the sheath. I wouldn't have a problem as long as it is upfront, that way if there is a price difference to accomodate the different sheath I can incorporate that into the quoted price.

There are some sheaths I just can't make and would have to find someone who could do it, there are added costs to that. This isn't an issue if it is expressed right up front.
