have a couple of fixed blade knives, a 165OT and a 498 both without a sheath. what is the proper sheath for them and what would be a reasonable price? i see some of the china blades with sheaths are quite reasonable to throw away the blade and keep the sheath.

You probably want a real leather sheath and the Chinese examples I have are not. They are reconstituted leather product made to look like leather. Sort of like blandex/chipboard except they come apart quicker when damp. The 498 used a square tip '49er sheath, the 165OT used one like the 153UH without a stone pocket, though I believe the 165 will fit in the 153 sheath.

There were several different sheaths used on the 165. This is the first with a choil retainer strap

This is the most common with a handle retainer strap
