Joe- that means a hell of a lot coming from you. Thank you very much!

i4Marc i4Marc and AVigil AVigil thank you I appreciate those kind words. Marc- an extra thank you to you for helping the sheath become reality without looking like a huge hot mess! I bought T pins for assembling the thing, having no idea they even existed until I saw your wip pictures on instagram. They made a massive difference, and allowed me to use some beautiful veg tan deer skin lining

here's a little vid of the sheath doing what it does;

So, someone out there in Knife Land decided they wanted to adopt this piece. I felt like maybe they should have a display for it, so I built one

The knife and sheath are amazing! What about some dimensions and what kind of steel is the blade? Thanks. John
Thank you so much!
I don't recall precisely, but the handle's around 4 1/2" and the overall length is probably around 9 1/2". The steel is CPM S30V, I'm thinking in the .15"-.18" thickness range. It's a little hard to tell by looking at it because the spine is all rounded off.

I was talking today with my newfound friend, EMCEE EMCEE , that I regard this knife as art- but not in the uppity sense. To me, real art tells a story- it's tuned to satisfy the most basic human instinct- curiosity. The trick is, it doesn't tell everyone the SAME story. Actually, a piece of art IS a story, and that's what makes it work even, (and especially) if people don't agree what the story is. Also important is that the story is not imposed by the creator- dogs playing poker is just dogs playing poker. The piece is really just a conduit which serves to a supply a person with some means to maintain some curiosity. With a few word of mouth hints by the creator, a person begins the journey of creating the story on their own. The story isn't static, it morphs over time either due to new external information or life experiences or what have you of the person affected by that art. Which is why dogs playing poker can actually be art to someone!
It's one thing to like the way that something looks, it's a whole other thing to be fascinated by the way something looks, (or feels, or sounds, or tastes, etc.). That fascination is maintained by something in the piece which causes consternation, and if you create a piece can bring that out in a person then I think you've made some art. Now, this is just a knife, and not a fancy one at that but there are many personal elements based on my life's trajectory which are expressed, sometimes in tangential ways. There are really only a handful of people who I've told those details to, and although every other single person in the world might see this thing as just a knife like any other, to me it only matters that the people whom I've confided in feel that it is something more. If they don't, then it is just a knife and that's cool, too :cool:

…it is definitely “something more”, my friend! I am genuinely honored and amazed to have glimpsed your perspective on the creation of this beautiful work of art and its sincere and deep history. Knives are cool….in fact, super cool to the kinds of nerds like we who frequent such things. That being said, friendship and shared journeys are irreplaceable. Thank you !

When the wifey and I get back to the homeland, I’ll take some measurements and a pic with my fat stubby paw, for perspective. I’ll then post them here. Again, I am truly fortunate and honored to benefit from your creation of the “Shedding”. “If you build it, they will come.”

Kindest regards,

Michael

A very functional piece of art...a peaceful piece it appears, but one you wouldn't want to make mad. Well done.

thank you for this! I was way off 🤦‍♂️
Small hands will do that to a guy !🤣

Seriously though, you know I have mad love for the knife. The craftsmanship, history, and inspiration that created the entire package are awe-inspiring and exquisite to me. Thank you, again .
