I must confess that I have lusted after this knife since Roger P posted a picture of it in his 2004 SOS thread.
I don't usually do sheephorn, but this one forced my hand. ;)

I'd have bought that one too, Pete. And, I'm not much more of a sheephorn fan than you. That knife is a winner all the way.

I've noticed a couple of sheep horn handled knives lately, and I've started to take a shining to it. And on this piece, I really like the handle shape and the visual/textural transition into the guard... And then a nice hamon...

Question for ya: Since you've had your eye on this for a couple of years now, and since you and the former owner I will presume live a good bit apart - How's the horn react to varying conditions over such a period of time?
I only ask 'cause I don't know how stable sheep horn is...

Thanks for the pic and any info!

That's a genuine bargoon bro - glad you snagged it. Terrific knife.

Roger

I only own one blade handled in sheephorn....a Gentleman's Pronghorn by Ed Fowler, but there's something about the material that is drawing me to view more and more similar pieces. I'm certain there'll be others to join my collection as soon as I get back on my financial feet.....so to speak.

I haven't seen many bowies with sheephorn handles but thay one is simply SWEET!

My thumbnail does hang up slightly around the guard and the pins, so there has been a bit of shrinkage. I suspect that if I feed it a little mineral oil over time, that I can get everything flush again.

I love Sheephorn.
And don't have any.
Stunning Bowie,Peter.
Long clip,NICE hamon.
Another treasure for your treasure chest.
Congrats.

Doug:)

That's a nice little fighter and I'm a sheephorn fan when the figuring and texture are right and the colors are rich, as in this example.
