Sheeple Freiendly Knives: The Last Word

Worked in an Office setting for 30 years now. It is really simple as regards to Knives. You do not whip out a 10 inch Bowie knife to cut a Secretary's Birthday Cake up! You must use some simple common sense here folk's. A two to two and a half inch folder will not alarm anyone. You whip out anything larger & you are seen as Rambo on a Vendetta! If you decide to display something larger..very foolish in my opinion... you will be called to account for it by the Boss/Management. Just use your common sense here folk's!

pogo, probably acceptable for most "offices" with little else in the way of business attached. I manage a portion of an R&D lab dealing with food. I spend 60% of my time in the lab and 40% at my desk. I carry a SAK, SOG Power Pliers, and one of several one hand openers up to 4 inches in blade length. Everyone asks me to do their cutting chores. Nobody cares how long a folder I have. I don't carry a fixed blade although nobody would care about that either. Our lab has kitchen knives, box cutters, slicing equipment with sharp blades, etc. Nobody is afraid a knife might just jump up on it's own and stab someone, or that having a knife might make a technician suddenly decide to do bodily harm! If I wanted to do harm to someone, I'd go to the lab and get one of our good ten inch chefs knives -- why stop at 4 inches!

What is the point of this thread?

Not everyone lives or works in the same environment.

Your words are inaccurate when applied to my workplace.
If I pull out a 10 inch bowie to cut up a cake for one of the secretaries it might generate a chuckle, not fear.

Common sense dictates that an inanimate object is harmless.
The sheeple mentality is devoid of common sense.

You don't have to accept the sheeple's outlook at all. If your employer sets forth rules regarding knives in the workplace, that is what you follow.

Common sense is simply using your tool efficiently when needed, and not waving it around like an idiot.

yea thats the last word. just keep your head down.

but if i want my children to be able to carry knives, it would be better if we diddnt just try to keep a low profile.

if we settle on 2.5 blades, then my (future) children are only going to be able to carry dinky pen blades, if any at all.

dont get me wrong. all of my EDCs' are 2.5 to 3", so dont peg me as one of those who have to carry a big 7" at all times.

0 .. one more thing
as Sal once said, we shouldnt be calling them 'sheeple' any more.
no one likes to be insulted, im sure no knife knut likes to be called a psycho whenever they draw thier knife.

How about plastic disposable knives? They go well in the urban, plastic, disposable sheeple culture.

A couple minutes ago, the secretaries and my boss just asked me to demonstrate cutting with my Busse short sword. I did so.

They are basically non-knife-people, they do not carry knives.

My job is not in jeopardy, nor will I be reprimanded. :)

Hmmm... Today to work I carried an SAK Locksmith, an old Buck 500 series marlin spike/sheep's foot folder, a Spyderco Police, and a CS Tanto Spike.

Nobody said a word....

I'm a stay at home dad.

I also agree that the working environment is a factor if there will be conflict with having a knife or if it is just matter of fact. I will whip out my Spyderco Manix with no hesitation if I need to cut up a cardboard box to size for the trash or even cut some apples for my co-workers. Big deal about it. If there are some that are squeamish I just ignore them because that is their opinion and I am not doing any harm or being a threat in any way. Of course if there is a set policy at work, then I would be in compliance. But all my knives I EDC are working tools for practical reasons.

Not everyone lives or works in the same environment.

Exactly. These words seem to me really an extension of pogo's first post. Use the apropriate tool for the job. My own experience is that nobody will blink an eye if you follow this rule of thumb.

In the real world, you simply cannot expect everyone to entertain your knife fetish without folks rolling their eyes when you pull out your ridiculous knife (face it, anyone who posts on an internet knife forum has a knife fetish :p ). If you can, more power to you. If not, don't start wetting your bed about how the sheeple are keeping you down.

This should be the last word on sheeple concerning their fear of your cutting tool:

F 'em.

Knives arent sheeple friendly, period. Thats all there is to it.

Hey digidude,
it's not that knives are not sheeple friendly;
it's that sheeple are not knife friendly.
my final word!

You have a right to carry and use a legal knife in the performance of your job. Just remember that your employer gets the final word on what's legal in his place of business. What's legal today could change tomorrow if your knife becomes a big issue with your fellow employees, who are just as valuable to the company as you think you are.

Carry a good knife and use it responsibly. But don't make a big deal of it if someone objects. Walk away from the argument. Don't antagonize them with smart remarks.

Let them be the one to overreact, and you be the one to de-escalate the situation.

I wouldn't be surprised if, like water finding its own level, many of us work in places that appreciate knives. We would be increasingly frustrated in an environment that restricted something we personally appreciate.

It may seem like more of an effort, but it's an effort that's worth it, to protect your right to carry, and even to convert the doubters to understanding the value of a good knife.

Honestly, at work, I do not give a damn what anybody thinks. I have enough knowledge of the subject to shoot down any concerns that arise. This subject annoys me, not that it's brought up or who brought it up, but the fact that people are so whipped these days and scared of their own shadows that it's insane, sickens me. As long as it's legal it will be in my pocket wherever I go. The funny thing is, people know me for carrying usually 2 knives, and I've had people scold me for it then a week later come up to me to barrow one to open this and that. It's like, "oh it's okay if you need a knife?!?" Get bent. End of rant!

I don't decide what to carry, not carry, use, or not use based on what other people might think. I carry what I want to carry, and if I need to use it, I pull it out. The sheeple don't determine my choice. If I were to be fired from a job for carrying a certain knife, it would not be an issue because if I had known the company was so full of ****, I would have quit a long time ago. And yes, I have quit two jobs because of their unfair and ignorant policies on knives. "Oh I am fired for carrying a knife? Well thank you for letting me know this company is worthless so that I can get out now rather than wasting more time here."

The way to change the public's mind about knives is *NOT* to bow to their sheepish conventions. You are being part of the problem if you do. Knives are seen as odd carry items by sheeple today because they are odd- not as many people carry knives anymore, and the people that do try to hide them, conceal them, or if they actually have to use one, they use the smallest knife possible in a pathetic attempt to make the sheeple happy. We are not criminals for carrying a legal and useful item- don't act like an outcast and maybe you won't be treated like one. We are not the ones that are wrong; they are.

And *THAT* is the final word.

I would quit my job if they didn't let me carry a knife.

That is the last word!
