Yup thats me.

Finally managed to arrange a full day in the shop. I have been working on a Lake like lock back folder for months and today was going to get the blade and locking mech exactly right. No rush, start over if it isn't exact. Took me most of the day but finally got it. The blade body and locking bar just the way I wanted them. Stick them in the heat treat and wait for them to finish cooking. After heat treat I tested them with the rockwell tester as usual and they were soft, dead soft. Thats when I realized I had picked up a piece of Hardware store steel that I use to make patterns instead of the 440C that I intended to use. A whole day wasted.
POO DARN - as my daughter says.

Damn, that sucks. I try to do as Stacy suggests and mark each bar ofsteel when I get it, and mark each piece when I cut it, but I still end up with a piece that I question sometimes. So I can defintely see how this could happen. POO DARN is exactly right, lol.

Finding that out feels like falling trough the floor.
Keep the blade and spring to remind yourself to never make that mistake again.
POO DARN!

When I started making knives I tried different types of steel and marked them for heat treating. After a year or so, after the knife was built, I can't remember what steel is in which knife. Kinda hard to sell a knife when you can't tell the customer what it is.
