Sorry for all these questions, but I think I've settled on Sheffield for my knife supplies. But I'm unsure of several things.
First off, I've heard amazing reviews about Sheffield, and that still stands right? Because I don't want to order from somewhere.... shifty.
Also, what is hot rolled? The catalog says hot rolled 1084...
And Lastly, to order, I just call in with credit card information?

Hot rolled steel is, like it says, rolled into sheet while hot. Should be pretty close to fully annealed, ie soft. Cold rolled is rolled cold with attendant hardening and grain alignment from the cold work.

Minibear464,

I've ordered from Sheffields a couple of times. No problems. I call my orders in because they are really nice people there and fun to talk to.

I see you are located in San Jose, I'm in Santa Clara.

I have ordered from them for more years than I can count. They are good to deal with. When I have ordered blade steel from them, they securely tape it to a board and it comes to me straight. I have ordered steel from other places and had it arrive in a bent state because it wasn't securly taped to a board.

My grandfather and father have been ordering supplies from Sheffield for many years and just started ordering supplies from them as well. A1 products and service
