People interested in traditional knives, especially those made in Sheffield, might want to know about an article spotted in All About Pocket Knives. An article listed is "A Day at the Sheffield Cutlery Works" that is apparently a facsimile of the April 1844 issue of The Penny Magazine from Britain. No author is given, at least none that I can see, and I suspect that it no longer costs a penny.
I do not wish to hassle with copyrights, links or permission to access the article, but I expect that anyone really interested can find this. My thanks to All About Pocket Knives for making this available.

Our own smiling-knife posted it. Thanks for the heads up
Interestingly ( yes...I'm a bookworm) it talks of the making of pen knives and the "outer scales" and the "inner scales". The outer being the ornamental scale and the inner being made of metal.
So an article that's been posted here before (though I personally found the scans of too low resolution to read) can be found somewhere online if you look for it, apparently? Sorry Faiaoga, no offence, but it's not much of a thread is it?
Hello. I uploaded my scans to an online album. Feel free to download and save the images for your personal use. The files are large so there should be no trouble reading the pages once saved on your computer.

Looks really interesting, I'll have to try to remember it when I can figure how to turn my computer on, not good enough resolution for my phone unfortunately!! (Responding to bookmark easier)
