I tried to contact Sheffield knifemaker supply via the two mail adresses listed on their contact site but somehow nobody is answering  .

Is it normal with Sheffield that email contact is somewhat slow, or are they generally not interested in purchases from Germany?

As I would love to buy a good deal of micarta as over here a pair of black micarta slabs cost like 12-19 Euro (14-22$) :D.

Thanks a lot for your answers in advance.

Regards Marcus

Miss Ann, as in Ann Sheffield in an older Lady, and hates computers. She tells me that she does'nt have one on her desk. She has a couple of younger folks working for her, and it is possible thant they use their personal computer at home for the E-mails. if so, It will take a while. the ph@ is 1-800-874-7oo7. 1-386-775-6453 Fax is 1-386-774-5754. I have nothing but the best to say about Sheffield knifemakers Supply. Mike http://www.lovettknives.com/

Thanks a lot guys  .

I've just sent them a fax and hope that they'll get in touch with me.

I'm looking forward to using micarta more freely and not as if it were some precious material :D.

As I've just read through past threads I've read that some makers were a bit unhappy about the quality of their phenolic micarta.

Is their stuff (e.g. natural or black paper and linen, green canvas ...) alright or is it inferior quality? I wouldn't want to end up with several large sheets that are of poor quality.

Looking forward to your answers.

I am no connoiseur of micarta, but I have been happy with black and tan canvas micarta I got from them. The only minor quirk I can see is that the cloth is a different weave in the tan than what I am used to. Tha tan also seems to take a better polish that the black, but then I don't expect (or want) canvas to polish smoothly. I like the texture it gives the handle.

bullet101 I hope you can get micarta cheaper than $14-22, I use micarta as my lowest grade handle material (or where I want it to be indestructable), I would much rather use wood.

Thanks Daniel  .

I also hope that I can get it cheaper, so I can use it more for low cost working knives. And trying to keep the cost down isn't really enhanced if the handle material alone costs 20 bucks :D.

I've seen that a lot of you use Micarta from Sheffield Supply so it would be great if you could share your experience and opinion about the quality.

Regards Marcus
