Who else started their first traditional knife collection with the classic shell knives from the 60's?
I will start with a couple pic's and please show us yours.

One of my earliest memories is waiting outside the works entrance to Richards of Sheffield, waiting for my dad to come of work, and my very first knife was a Richards 'Little Chief' Bottle Jack. Scores of these knives have gone through my hands over the years, but I have only kept a few. Can't post pics now as I'm not at home, but will throw some in later.

Shell scale knives are hard to avoid here in the UK. They were very well marketed and appeared in most sweet shops etc, presumably aimed at school kids. It worked with me and my first knife was the scout knife in the top right of the picture [without its cover]. I bought it myself at the age of 8 or 9 years. I have soft spot for these, mainly Richards, knives ... and they are great for projects !

Awesome collection ADEE! I like the diamond colored one, it just pops right out!

I will post a few more tonight. :)

Thanks for the comments Markesharp. I think the diamond pattern you refer to is a Scottish tartan or else based on one. You could have hours of fun trying to work out exactly which tartan. regards ... ADEE

Great pic ADEE, I thought of you when I saw this thread! Your photo reminded me of a few more I have, but these will have to suffice for now :)

Here is a better picture of the tartan knife Markesharp. I think the tartan is made up.

And a couple more. The variety of the Richards brand is amazing but the tang stamps vary a lot too.
Your pictures show that too Jack .. and thanks for the comment.

Nice photo montage idea ADEE  here's one of mine that I Missed before.

And how could I forget the Old No30 I was sent by Meako?

Here are a few I have shown before...

An impressive collection glennbad ... thanks for posting them. Such variety. Is that really a key slotted in to one of those small knives ?

Thanks. Yes, they were primarily given away at car dealerships, and they would cut your new car key onto the blank so you might have it in your pocket just in case.

Thanks for that glennbad. Amazing stuff. It would be worth hanging on to the car if it had a key like that.
