I have used Buff rags for about five or so years now. I've gone through quite a few, I think the washing machine eats them ;). I have them in my truck, packs, at work and at home. I'm a big guy that is somewhat active, and a damp Buff rag is the best thing in the world next to a cold Nalgene bottle of water on the trail. I've seen some people using shemaghs. Can anyone recommend one? Pros and cons? I have a couple boonie hats, store brand etc, but combining my Tilley and my Buff rag, I'm usually good to go as long as I stay hydrated.

What shemagh should I look at for Maryland? Humid climate in the summer, mostly. Good winter gear also? What do I need to know about them and their use? I've seen Ron Hood on his DVDs with them, special forces soldiers, saw a buddy at a local event with one on at his table. Possible snow protection. Price range to look at, I've seen them from 10 bucks to 20 bucks.

Thanks.

i like the camcon brand shemagh - available from that big river site. i have a coyote brown and the pattern doesn't stick out enough so it looks like a giant bandanna instead of being associated with a terrorist, etc...also, hobo hanky sells 100% cotton but the color selection is limited.
