Does anyone else on here have/use a shemagh (arab style desert scarf)? I have recently had the occasion to wear one on a regular basis. My shemagh is the british army issue with no tassels or knots. Some times the natives do know best!

I'll be getting an O.D. and Black one from Brigade Quartermasters soon. I'll let you know what I think of it.

I want to check out the Brigade one as well. Since I shave the dome, I always have something on my head when I'm out, and the large desert scarf would serve other functions as well.

I have found that the light weight british "Operation Grandby" Scarves work best for me. I also have a hard to find white and brown shemagh that was issued to some troops in the first gulf war.

I've got one of each of the Brigade shemaghs... they're great... until it starts raining... then you've got a soggy dish towel wrapped around your head. They are wonderful for the arid regions of the world...but suck if things get soggy.
I've got serious sinus/upper-respiritory problems and a cold breeze on my neck/chest/ear canals can be potentially lethal: they are great for keeping the wind off of my chest and neck in cool or windy weather. Unfortunately, here in the Northwest... cool and breezy usually means damp or wet, too... thus rendering the shemagh to my pack until things dry out...

But they look cool!

blimey, i didn't know shemaghs were on general issue to UK troops. . . i had to buy mine.

For civvy and 'don't hike without one - its got a million and one uses' applications, I recently scrapped my shemagh in favour of an indonesian sarong. Its a bit tougher and bigger, but not OD.

Punker: I dont know who actually gets issued the shemaghs in the Army but I can give you an MOD# and nomenclature:
Operation Grandby Faceveil CE 8415-99-132-1388
Cheers Mate
