I bought a 15" AK by Sher from Uncle a week or two ago (or three?) and was planning on giving it to my neighbor who plows my driveway. Well, things got REALLY crazy around here before my wife finally gave birth and my parents (in their 70's)had to basically move in with us for a week on two separate occasions, and do tons of work that I didn't have time to do.

So, the AK arrived and was quite honestly one of the most perfect, beautiful khuks I've EVER seen. Old style convex edge, or at least so close I couldn't tell any diff. BEAUTIFUL glow in the dark saatisal that would make a frog weep:D Excellent fit and finish and the balance!!!!!! NEarly made me tear up to hold the damn thing. To be totally honest I felt so strongly about this knife I HAD to give it away--I was a little worried about keeping it, but I knew it had to go to someone I cared about a great deal. So, it went to my dad. His first khuk.

Oh, and it was supposed to be a blem. 5 min of polish with a pool of Flitz on a piece of plywood took 95% of rust off last 1/4" of tip.

We talk about these knives having spirit, but I don't think I really understood until I held this one. Seemed only right to give one with this much spirit to a man like my dad--he's a rare breed.

Your solution sounds fit'in to me. I bet Dad felt the same spirit presents that you did.:)
