I just received my 18" AK made by Sher Bahadur, the same kami who makes the little Kagas Katnes. Talk about extremes. Like Uncle Bill, I had to laugh when I saw it -- it is absolutely massive. As Uncle Bill said, Sher was obviously working out his frustrations after working on all those tiny little khuks. This AK is just two ounces shy of 3 lbs., and is almost 19" long, plus, the workmanship is outstanding. I generally consider the 18" AK to be the ideal "working" khukuri, and now I consider the "Sher Crazy" to be the best of the best. Anyone partial to 18" heavy-duty khuks that can withstand untold abuse owes it to himself to order one. As far as I'm concerned, they don't get any heavier-duty than this.

Steven --- I like the looks of that khuk too. If the handle is not real thick I should be able to use it fairly well. The lighter blades are much faster for combat, but I also like the strong and thick blades.----------------- Something like a 16" or so Ang Khola, about 9/16" thick, 2.5 lbs. would be perfect. This would be a very nice in between blade. I have many lighter H.I. khukuri's; they are very strong and feel great! A heavy 16"er or so would be very nice.

Jay, I think you would find that the "Sher Crazy" is absolutely perfect because even though it has an unbelievably massive blade, its handle is not proportional -- by that I mean that the handle is of a more conventional size, but it still looks good and is still big enough to handle the beefy blade well. I like my Sher Crazy so much that I'd very much like to get another. Jay, my advice is: go for it -- you'll be glad you did. However, I think the Sher Crazy is a special-order item, and I think Uncle Bill requires at least five customers to sign up before he'll place a special order, in which case you can add my name to the list -- I just might have to sell some blood and a few body parts to pay for it.

Uncle Bill, I think it's essential to Sher's mental health that he be allowed to periodically make a few "Sher Crazies." I can't imagine what it must be like, day after day, to work at hammering out those tiny little khuks. And can you imagine the teasing he must get from the other kamis who make "real" khuks? No wonder the lad must occasionly prove his mettle (note the clever play on words) by pounding out brutish AKs.

I'm looking forward to meeting Sher along with the other kamis. Maybe I can give him an assignment when I'm at the shop -- something like a fifty pound khukuri -- that should take care of him for awhile.

I just thought I probably shouldn't have said that. Cliff and a couple of other guys will want on the wait list for the 50 pounder.
