I have seen various other accounts of western bears being done in by axe strikes to the same location. Outdoor Life magazine used to publish various such accounts. Of course, you only get one shot.

A distinguishing characteristic of the Sherpa knives of Kancha Kami was the solid brass buttcap. I would expect this to give the knife a more neutral balance than most khukuris, although that is just a guess. I have never held one.
