She being my BK-2, and the ride being some new pants.
Still culling the herd, and I decided to sell the previous occupant of this sheath.

Hmmmm.... I says. That looks like a BK-2 sheath upgrade.
Had to do a little sanding on the liner to remove a notch I previously cut in.
Still going to have to do some modding to get the sheath liner a bit tighter.
The sheath pouch already had a Leatherman Charge, a firesteel, and a couple of fire straws, so now my BK-2 has company.
The BK-2 got a few light coats of Krylon clear acrylic under the scales today too.

On my hunting trip this past month, I hunted over a big dead cedar, and I packed out a couple of the limbs.
Going to run these through my surface planer. The wood chips will go in my hunting tub to give my coveralls and boots a woodsy scent.
However, I'm also going to have some really nice fire boards out of them.

Looking good.

Any chance you got a BK Brute in that herd of yours that you're trying to part with?

I do like the Spec Ops. My only real critique is that the pouch cover doesn't completely cover the pouch.
Been thinking about some sort of mod that would remedy this shortcoming.
It won't kill the items above to get wet though.
The Leatherman is stainless. The firesteel is... well... a firesteel. And the firestraws are sealed.

Looking good.

No, I'm saving all the Brutes to trade to thumper for Machaxes to trade to Bladite for a BK-8. :p :D

Thanks for the pictures and the post, always excellent to see from you Guyon.

I love the CAMPanion......

Wow! That looks awesome stripped. I think I may have a new project to do. Also, I much prefer those micarta scales over the contoured ones I received. I just can't seem to get used to that big swell in the middle. Thought about cutting it down, but if scales like yours are available, then I'll just get them and save the originals.

No, those are Camillus micarta scales. Hard to find these days.
Maybe not impossible but surely hard. Be a lot easier to sand down the Ka-Bars if you don't like the palm swell.
My pics seem to get quite a few queries, but I'll bet that CNC machining template is long gone.
I bought a bunch of them right as Camillus was going kaput.
Found a source and pretty much bought him out.
No regrets there. All my users have 'em.

Just put a little hair dryer heat-and-squeeze on the liner.
It's perfect now. Just a little bit of tension and no rattle.
It's going to be a nice carry rig.

pffft, like that's going to happen :)

i've already contacted off-world security services. to the moon! course, our system has a LOT of moons. bring some protein bars ;)

i'm probably keeping my Brutes too. hard to find than Machaxen it seems, and maybe in as little as 9 months, there will be Machax galore. heh.

Cotton balls impregnated with petroleum jelly. Otherwise known as PJCB's.

Easy to make...

Take some petroleum jelly and work into some (real) cotton balls.
Take a straw and cut to length. I like the big wide ones from fast food joints.
Squeeze closed the end of the straw with some needle nose pliers, allowing about 1/8" to 3/16" to stick out on one side.
Light that extruding portion and allow it to melt and seal. Let cool.
Stuff the PJCB material into the straw, leaving room at the end to grip and seal.
Repeat the squeezing, melting, sealing on the other end. Done.

It's an easy way to carry tinder for one fire. Just slit open the straw, spread out the fibers, hit 'em with a spark, and enjoy fire.

 Awesome thread/post. Love the whole setup. Where did you get that sheath? I like it with the Camillus scales. Great information too on the firestraws. I will have to add that to my setup. Right now I just have cottonballs with petroleum jelly in a ziplock bag. Those firestraws seem a bit more space saving as well. Great pics

I tried PJ soaked lint from the dryer and it works great. I think a little better than the cottonballs.

Couple of quick pics and a video.
The cotton takes a spark better if you take the time to separate the fibers out as much as possible.
I put it over some chopped up cedar bark for more dramatics.

Here's a quick (somewhat rushed) video. Click the image below to check it out. Crappy framing and I had to pull my camera out of the way to avoid disaster, but you'll get the idea. The technique I'm using involves pulling the firesteel back through the striker, the idea being to control your spark shower and not disturb the tinder.

Nice idea! I always wondered about a good way to carry these. Thanks!!

Not my idea. Someone in W&SS schooled me.
If I recall correctly, someone over there even claims to have come up with the idea originally (or maybe he knew the person who supposedly did... can't remember).
Anyway, hit a Sonic (red straws) or McDonald's (white straws with stripes) and get busy. :p

Another good way to carry a big honkin' pile of PJCB's is with 35mm film containers. You used to be able to go into any place that develops film and get a few.

Just let me know when you want to start the trading......I want you to have a shot at the BK8, don't know about the off world/moon security, though!
