I thought it might be interesting to post a pic of a vintage middle eastern Shibriya in context with the Spyderco Shabaria. Shibriyas are rare enough that I'd bet most Shabaria fans have never seen one.

Here is a 20th century Shibriya, silver hilted, with a 7.5" blade.

Hi Carlos. Thanks for the pix. I haven't seen the upgraded version of the Shabaria in person. How about a detailed list comparing the original vs. the upgrade item by item? Photos if possible.

AFAIK the only differences are:

1. offset arc ramp
2. screws instead of rivets
3. open frame (no backspacer)

Thanks Carlos. I like the idea of the open frame (I guess posts are used in place of the spacer) should make the knife easier to clean. The arc ramp also sounds like a good idea--my current Shabaria's liner lock slides pretty much all the way across the back of the blade to the opposite liner when I use the "Spyder-Drop" to open the knife. Hmm, maybe it's time for me to move up to the upgrade of one of my favorite knives. I still can't believe how the blade profile could be made into a folder--EB was a genius.
