Does anyone have "official" names of the various shields Schrade used through the years. If there is an illustration like this I'd appreciate seeing it.

I see similarity with Schrade, Ulster, and Imperials, especially in that elliptical shaped one (seen on an 863 for example).

I have a picture of the shield plate that Schrade used but it's real difficult to read. It was some kind of wall plaque. I'll work on cleaning it up and see what I can do.

There was a more detailed list that was posted somewhere around here recently but I can't find it. Here is a more general list of shield names from Ritchie and Stewart's "Knife Collectors Guide". Your question got me wondering myself...

Bowtie, Arrow, Acorn, Bomb, Propeller, Crest, Bar, Oval, Bullet, Badge.

These are a few I could come up with, but not specific to Schrade, and certainly not official. I'd sure like to see one from Schrade, Ulster, and Imperial.

I like the shields on knives, and especially like to find a Schrade Walden that has Schrade Walden engraved on the shield itself. Sometimes it is there, many times blank, and seems to be no rhyme or reason.

The Uncle Henry and Old Timers were pretty darn consistent, but Open Stock was anything goes.

Many of the names we call shields, and knife patterns too, are modern collector creations. For instance Mr. A.B. Hourin, writing the recipe for the #204 (2041SDSHA) specified a #4 Cattle Shield. Look that one up. The 234K (2344K) specified a #14 Crescent Shield. Look that up too. The 236 (2364 3/4B) had a #22 N.S. Shield. The 242 (2425) had a #6 Shield. The 272 (2725 3/8) used a #19 Shield. The 293 (S2943 3/4) used a #10 Shield.
