Hi There,
I'm trying to find a source which gives a full set of specifications (length, width, weight, etc.) for the Viking sword, recovered from the river Thames at Shifford.I know that there are existing reproductions, but I am considering asking a local maker to produce one specifically for myself. Any "detailed" information would therefore be of great assistance.
Thanks for your help.
Brian

Brian: I was JUST at a site last week that had detailed information about the Viking sword found at Shifford. Give me some time and I'll try to track down the URL for the site.

Hi there Metal-Demon,
I would be most grateful if you could track down the website that you visited.
By the way, I have to say that you live in a wonderful part of the world. I have relatives over there and once visited back in the early Eighties. Didn't want to come back!!!

This isn't the one I was thinking of, but I hope it helps nonetheless, Brian.

I sure do hope that helps, but I'll keep looking in case I find something else of value for you!

BTW: I'm glad that you enjoyed your stay here in Canada! Let me tell you, if I ever visited Scotland, I doubt I'd ever wnat to leave your glorious homeland!!

Update: Try this one as well, it may not have the Shifford Viking Sword, but it DOES have amazing detail for each of the blades shown (just click on the one you'd like to get info on, etc.):

Hi there Metal-Demon,
Thanks for your most recent posting. I'd already stumbled across the viking.com website that you mentioned but I hadn't managed to find the second one that you recommended (accucom.net). I've just had a cursory look there, before coming back to thank you. It does indeed have some amazing detail and I will definitely be going back for a more detailed and leisurely look.
I have discovered (via another Forum) that the original sword apparently resides in the Museum of Reading here in the U.K. I intend to contact the Curator to see if he/she would be willing to provide me with more detail. As soon as I find anything out I will post it here for your benefit.
