I have what I believe through some googling, a Shin Gunto. I found it in my attic with some 1940's men's magizines. I'd like from you experts some info on the history/origins, also with your estimated value. I'm not planning to sell it (a very nice conversation piece,) but would just like your valued estimations for conscervation.

Sorry....haven't figured out how to [ost photos here yet.

Also the "maker stamps" did not come through the pics, if I have to, I could draw them.

Thanks

That is not a Shin Gunto sword, that is an Imperial Non-Comissioned Officers (NCO) sword. A Shin Gunto was an Army-issued Officer's sword. You can immediately tell the difference by the painted metal hilt on a NCO sword, as opposed to the wood/rayskin/cord grips of Officer's swords.

These have machine-made blades with numbering & proof marks as in your photo. The value range for these swords, depending on where you live, runs from $200-700, with the higher range back from 2008.

In the future, when showing off a sword for evaluation, take clear pictures of the blade and tip, not the scabbard or hilt. The condition of the blade determines the price.

As I said, I have found this in my attic, so I'M not an expert. But thanks for the history, and the next time I find a sword in my attic, I'll post better pics of the blade and the tip for ya.

Thanks
Brendol

NCO for sure, machine made I am quite sure. I'd say anywhere from $200-$400. Maybe more.
