Shinin Times Bowie

I made this Bowie with the American Mountain Men in mind. The trappers and tradesmen who made their living from the rivers and mountains in the late 18th and early 19th century. The rendezvous and the Buffalo. Those were "shinin times".

The blade is 11 inches and forged from some of DH III's W2 steel. The fittings are forged from stainless steel.

These are just snap shots so there may be some oil or flecks of dust.

Absolutely beautiful work, your forgings continue to inspire me.
What stainless do you forge for guards?

Hi Lin,

If this was an order, great job!

If it was spec, I suggest you start looking at other styles to help promote your work to a new or younger market.....don't see a lot of this type selling to the "under 40" crowd.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Oh, if one shows up on the Walking Dead they could be the next hot thing :) I understand what you are saying.

Nothing wrong with making knives to "sell" but never stop making the knife you have inside of you and just need to get it out.

Thank you guys.

STeven, since it's more or less a "one of" I'm not worried about appealing to any particular age group. I can see it appealing to some of all age groups though. It appeals to me because of that period in history. Thanks. I always appreciate your thoughts.

I can agree that there are some that this wouldn't appeal to. When I think of what a mountain man or frontiers man would have loved to own this fits the bill.

That said, the craftsmanship and unique approach to fittings keep this one "shinin" for me. Well done Lin.

Absolutely beautiful.

The knife just screams for a sheath with a button on it if for being stuck inside the belt in the cross draw posit.

Shinin indeed.

(.....although the buffalo might not have 'thunk' so:D).

PS
Now I have a strange hankering for a buffalo hunt ..., where is my Sharps!!

Lin, you are creating one great looking Bowie after. I expect you have little concern about your knives selling regardless of style.

I really like everything about this piece Lin. Great job.

Iwreah... Lin? Pleased to meet you!
My name is Randy, but they call me Sixx.
That is a beautiful knife! What amazing craftsmanship & skill!
I'm 49 but feel much older, but in my mind, I'm around 21 or 22...lol!
Thanks for the pics!!
Have a great weekend!!
