there have been tons of threads on here showing very shiny handles on knives. Jaxx's pics of his tiger hide LE's really look great.

Some people use mineral oil to take the photos. I have read several people using silicon wipes etc.

I though I would try running my shoe polish brush over the handle scales to see what would happen. Very nice looking shine and color. It seems to be lasting too. I used the FBMLE to chop this weekend camping, and it is still shiny. The finish seems to have better grip as well, not slippery at all.

Here is a small close up to show that the handle can look dull.

After using camping to split a bunch of wood, and make kindling(you can see the little spots that a quick brushing missed where the lanyard covered).

It does not seem to rub off on my hands or clothes either.

Just though I would share that. It seems to work great. And it is super quick to do. Just a quick brush with the shoe polish brush.

just one of those horse hair brushes with the wooden handles. About 5 inches long.

On the BAD there is a bit of brown polish I tried to apply lightly then rub off with a towel and then buff with the brush a bit. (the Brown polish tin was almost completely empty, and what was left was pretty hard).

No extra used on the FBMLE, just ran the brush over it a few times per side (I am sure there was a bit of residual on the buffing brush). The BAD got more attention, so the result was better.

I tried it and it worked. Great tip Bigfattyt.

what color handle did you try it on?

I got the idea because my SS had a shinier handle, and I used boiling water to fit my sheath tighter, and bam, the handle was not quite as shiny.

Then I saw a custom maker who said he buffed his mycarta handles with a bit of wax. So I thought I would give it a try.
