Shiny or worn?

I've been using my folders as much as I can to break them in. Even the smallest things, I'd cut with my knife. I hate when knives are shiny, I feel I can't use it. So I cut something, like a box a few times to get some light scratches.

Which do you perfer, perfect NIB shiny? Or used but not abused scratchy?

If you could post pics that'd be cool...I LOVE those pics.

I like to maintain my "use" knives in as good a condition as possible, eventually they will look worn no matter what and I'm Ok with that, but still I try to keep 'em looking good as long as possible.

For my using knives, I like a nice patina or use-wear markings. But I'd hate to carry a knife with deep scratches or other signs of abuse.

My lookin' at knives, I try to keep in original condition. Obviously they're going to accumulate some marks over many years of fondling, but they all have the original factory edge and no usage marks.

Use and wear marks ok; however I find that I am not particularly fond of the black coated blades when they wear - looks sloppy.

Also - after a while - I do not like a blade that has been re-sharpened many times. I have a few - they hold great memories - but the blade tends to look haggard.:(

I do not like abuse at all - I cringe when I drop a knife - knowing that there will be a dent / ding. It always ends up in a spot that is very visible.:thumbdn:

There is just something about a well used knife, a tool that shows use, that appeals to me. I find the knives that show wear are the ones that are closest to me.

+1 on the pic request I loved to see battle worn knives here.

Definitely worn and scratched. We should be proud of our knives' battle scars. They add more character to our knives.
