In a few weeks time i will be going for a trip on a russian tall boat and be flying back to Singapore after the trip what i need is a PSK that can go pass customs on ship and plane any suggestions??

what i have now will be place in a small fak bag and will be with me at all times:
whistle
blastmatch
cotton wool (for fire and first aid)
alchol swab
plasters
medical pills
space blanket
20m para cord
potasium permangate
mirror
2 razor blade (did not take knife because it is not allow on plane)

a torch light will be in my pocket

I do not know if wire saw are allowed so I will not take the risk even though it can help alot.

I also have a small bag where a few clothing and extra will be on my carry-on bag it mainly hold water bottle, poncho(whichalso can be use as a tarp), jacket and some food.

if you got any suggesting please add it in. thanks

look on www.equiped.org Doug Ritter's site. He has an extensive gear review for both on water, and over it.

a hand pump type desalinator is the most important thing besides and emergency beacon and a life raft. But this will set you back a few...Hopefully your ship already has a good abandon ship bag, make sure you know the contents, and how to deploy the life raft.

Ditch the potasium permangate and the razor blades banned by almost all airlines and the PP not allowed in many countries.

If it's baggage or luggage being stowed on the plane, you may be able to bring a small knife, just not on your person, or in a carry-on bag. Check for rules.

In foreign countries they could have strict knife laws, but knives are pretty universal everywhere. Someone could always purchase a cheap knife while in a foreign land, then hand it to a deserving soul before flying out.

If this PSK is to have with you, at all times, even while on the plane, just have a way to craft a knife if needed. A small square piece of metal, or even the PSK's container/tin. Any blunt object of metal that can be sharpened. If they allow, take a small file. it can be broken to expose a jagged edge, or used to craft a useable edged tool out of metal found while on your journey.

That's all I can think of for now.

Actually razor blade are allow on carry-on I check the tsa website.
do anyone know if wire saw is allow?

Thanks for the info on PP think I will change it for water sterlizing tablets. I will also be adding some small plastic bags and large trash bags the small one for getting water from plants and large one for shelter.

Skunkwerx: thanks for the knife tip but I do not think I will be doing it because I know nothing on how to make a knife.

Check again when the TSA say's razor blades they mean Safety razors not open blade old style .It is not hard at all to make a knife edge, you do that all the time when you file your nails or cut the lid off a can just abraid the edge.
Take a ferro rod instead of the Blast match as they will not understand the use, with the BM they see sparks and bye bye:grumpy: Take 10% iodine in a small bottle [i use the small breath mint and refill it , use for water purification] and Triple antibiotic as the base is Petroleum jelly, mixed with cotton great fire starter. here's a link for Singapore. You can do a search online for other countries.

akabu but with the ferro rod a knife/saw is needed to strike it and I do not think those are allowed. I like your idea for the iodine might try it out. do not think I will do PJ because it is flamable, not allowed on board.

I've been able to get sparks from a ferro rod with just a house/car key. Also, you can carry a small (2oz or less) tube of petroleum jelly lip balm that can be used with cottonballs...just don't mix until you need them.

Rock6 you beat me to it:D you can use most any hard object with an edge just experiment, maybe not as big shower of sparks just prepare the tinder ball carefully. When you reach your place just pick up a cheap blade.

My apologies darkhawk I should have checked your profile, you’re from Singapore :o :o

haha its alright I dont mind. I tried to use some keys but it could not work. Do you think they would allow a knife blade broken off a SAK? I used to have a small SAK but it broke so I use the knife blade it is around 2in in length it can darw out quite alot of sparks.

The airlines basically don't allow anything on board with an edge on it (with the exception of safety razors), so I think a broken off SAK blade will be taken off you if they see it.
I've seen them take away nail-clippers from people because of the cutting edge on them, and nail files because they thought it to be too pointy.
